Seaside
Tuscany is certainly among the Italian regions with the greatest variety of landscapes and attractions. The mountains and the Tuscan hills alternate with valleys and cities of art, so who decides to organize a vacation in Tuscany has really spoiled for choice.
But do not forget that the true soul of the Tuscan region is the sea and many of the beautiful beaches of its coastline are considered examples, both for the quality of marine waters and for the clean beaches offering efficient services.
In 2007 Tuscany was awarded of the highest number of Blue Flags by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). The coasts of Tuscany stretch for about 250 km, and along we find white beaches of fine sand alternating with darker beaches and cliffs.
The most north coast of Tuscany includes the Apuan Riviera, with its splendid view of the Apuan Alps, and the renowned coast of Versilia, which stretches for 160 km. With its 20 km of beaches, the Versilia is famous for being a seaside resort “by tradition”, these beaches were in fact used by tourists since the early years of the twentieth century. The area offers free beaches and sophisticated establishments, fitted with every type of service. The most famous beaches are: Pietrasanta (Focette, and Fiumetto Foce Foce Motrone), Marina di Levante (Viareggio), Forte dei Marmi beach.
Continuing along the Riviera Pisana we pass through the regional park of Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli, established in 1979. This extends for approximately 24,000 hectares located along the coast between Viareggio and Livorno. The park is bordered by two beaches, one of Torre del Lago Puccini and Calambrone. Crossing the park, along the coast there are two other beaches reported by the Blue Flag: Marina di Pisa and Tirrenia.
The limpid sea of the Tuscany goes to the south for more than 90 km from Livorno to Piombino. This is called the Etruscan Coast and we find: Castiglioncello, Marina di Grosseto and Principina a Mare, Antignano, Vada (Pietrabianca / Mazzanza), the beaches of Rimigliano, San Vincenzo, Bibbione, Cecina and Castagneto.
The promontory of Punta Ala, famous for its beautiful view of the harbor, close to the southern Gulf of Follonica. Here ther are the famous sandy beaches of Castiglione della Pescaia and the beaches of Levante and Poniente.
The Tuscan coast ends in Maremma. Area of great natural charm, this stretches along the coast with sandy beaches and cliffs. In this area we recommend the beaches of Marina Cala Galera, Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano.
