540 / Triangle Expressway and Extension
On July 29, 2009 the Turnpike Authority completed a finance package exceeding $1 billion, allowing for the award of construction contracts to complete 540/Triangle Expressway. More than five years of Alliance and partner efforts have come to fruition as the largest highway project in State history was awarded to extend the 540/Raleigh Outer Loop to the south and to extend the Durham Freeway south to meet 540.

Transit Empowerment Legislation
Local option funding will be a critical component of our area's future ability to advance a new regional transit system in the Triangle.
On August 10, 2009 the NC Legislature approved House Bill 148, the Intermodal / transit local options bill, with significant bipartisan support, providing the Triangle region with several additional tools in our mobility funding toolbox to make critical transit investments.

I-40 Cary / Raleigh widening
On July 1, 2009, the NC Department of Transportation signed the I-40 Cary/Raleigh widening contract, which will complete the widening of a 6 mile stretch of I-40 between Cary and Raleigh from 4 to 6 lanes by June 2011.
