Review Policy

GFTW is currently closed to submissions, except to authors & publishers with whom we have worked before.

  • I am perfectly happy for authors, publishers or publicists to contact me directly about reviewing books.
  • My preferred genres are: Epic/High Fantasy, Science Fiction, Sword and Sorcery, Shared World, Comedic & Satirical Fantasy, Space Opera, and Steampunk. However, I believe in not limiting myself, and will gladly be challenged by new genres.
  • I do not currently accept e-books or PDFs for review, only bound hardbacks or paperbacks. I will provide you, in a separate email, a shipping address where I can receive a copy.
  • No self-published or vanity press books, or books in the horror/thriller genre, please.
  • Acceptance of a book for review does not guarantee a review. However, If I do accept a book for review, I do my best to review it in a timely fashion. I cannot guarantee the reviews will be always positive, but they will be honest assessments.
  • I read and review on a preferential basis. I will try to read and review all books in a timely fashion. If you have a particular deadline or tour date in mind, please indicate this in your request to me. I will do my best to fulfill the requested date.
  • When reviewing, I like to include: a brief summary (minimal or no spoilers), my thoughts & opinions, an image of the book cover, and a direct link to Amazon.
  • I may decline your request to review a book and will include my reasons if I do so.
  • Review Policy is subject to change. If any changes are made, I will post about it.
  • Please include a synopsis of your novel, any blurbs you have received, and a link to your website or blog in an email to me. I will respond within five business days if interested.

    Hi,

I really hope I’m not bothering you with this email.

My debut fantasy novel (Warriors of Light: Medallion) has just hit
Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk as an ebook. It will also be released to
a number of online stores as a paperback in the next few weeks.

I’d really love if you could take a bash off it and, even you don’t
read it, anything you could say about the book on any of your social
media would be a great way to let readers know it exists.

If you send me a valid email address I would be delighted to send you a free copy of the ebook.

Many, many thanks and the very best of wishes,

    John Whelan-Curtin,
    Ireland
