Virtual Pavilions – Screensaver Anno 2011

Members of the artist collective Manifest.AR bring their augmented reality projects – fresh from the Venice Biennale 2011 – to the Dumbo waterfront. Download the Layar APP, search Dumbo and view the various points of interest.

Unfortunately, there will be no AR artwork of Sander Veenhof in the skies above Brooklyn during this show. Fortunately, there’s now an Augmented Reality screensaver to fill up the empty space.

Plop Spots

Have a seat and relax! Plop yourself down in a giant street pillow. Made out of inflatable bags ‘Plop Spots’ generates outdoor seating clusters around the festival area offering pedestrians a place to rest and contemplate; a temporary action to test and increase public seating around DUMBO. Placed on selected iconic sites of the neighborhood ‘Plop Spots’ invites visitors to take part of the festival and pause …ahhh …puff …zzzz …plop.

Martha Clippinger

Martha’s project will fill the negative spaces of the Brooklyn Bridge?s iconic arches with color. Pairs of cardboard shapes will hang from street signs, scaffolding, and other locations throughout DUMBO. Viewers can align their bodies with the hued shapes and the bridge, in order to ?color-in? the voids of the Brooklyn Bridge?s arches.

The Orphans of Dumbo

The Orphans are templates of hand drawn characters looking for a way to enliven the often dreary urban environment and reflect the chaotic anonymity of urban life.

CSD DWELLING UNIT 3.0

A series of contemporary modular birdhouses, equipped with ‘green roof’ systems and solar panels that assemble like a 3-D puzzle and hang from city signage.

DUMBO: Inside Out

From Tunisia to the Bronx, JR’s Inside Out Project has turned streets across the world into photo galleries showcasing people in the neighborhood. DUMBO community members inspired by JR have joined together to create a large outdoor portrait gallery in celebration of the neighborhood’s creative culture.

The Dumpster Project

Mac Premo has been collecting stuff to make art from for 20 years when the move to a smaller studio forced him to decide on the fate of his objects. Faced with the prospect of throwing his stuff away, Mac converted a 30-yard long industrial dumpster from a trash mechanism into an exhibition space where each object is discretely displayed. Around 400 of the objects he uses as raw material for this enormous collage have been photographed and eulogized, on view at thedumpsterproject.com

An Exhibition of Artwork by the Little Lamas and a Celebration of Buddhist Arts and Crafts

Original artwork created by the “Little Lamas” (young monks) who attend the school at the Jonang Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. Enjoy Buddhist and Himalayan crafts, Tibetan music, food and traditional arts demonstrations presented by the Monks of Dorje Ling Buddhist Center located in Dumbo.

Water Stret Mural: Transformation

After two years, the popular Water Street mural has been transofrmed. The creative forces behind the original project would like to share the change with the residents of DUMBO. 303 has kept the original concept by showing the evolution of its characters. The artists are trying to make a statement that improvements, or change, can be made without losing the original essence behind the artwork. It is a message that they hope the old and new residents of DUMBO can relate to.
