The back of the magazine is loaded with tons of great resources and cool things to check out, but they’re easily looked over if you don’t think to click. So, we wanted to put together a series that calls out some of these “new discoveries” to get you exploring some awesome travel inspiration on the web. We’ll of course be sharing more beyond what’s in the magazine too!

// Postcards: Tree to Be You & Me

Wayfare reader Samantha Alviani from Denver, Colorado sent us this note about a San Francisco Bay treehouse vacation she recently booked through Airbnb (from $150/night).

When I first came across Doug’s treehouse on Airbnb, I realized that my childhood fantasy about being part of the Swiss Family Robinson could come into fruition—at least for a night. It’s beautiful—a magical little house situated in a massive Oak, built in accordance with the rules of the tree and not the builder. I booked it as fast as I could.

We’ve been dreaming of a trip to Babylonstoren — the storied farm-to-table homestead in the heart of South Africa’s wine country — since we first laid eyes on photographer Bob Coscarelli’s lush photos of the place for our pilot edition of Wayfare. Those of you who can’t get enough of this fairytale farm should enjoy feasting your eyes on a few more of Bob’s photographs that didn’t make it into the magazine.

// Places We Heart: Jennifer Squires Ross

If we could, we’d spend the majority of our days chasing down ethereal moments of beauty. Unfortunately, our day jobs require us to spend more time in front of laptops than sunrises. That’s why we love (and envy) Ontario, Canada-based photographer Jennifer Squires Ross. “My current passion is peaceful seascape photographs for the simple reason that starting my day watching the sunrise while I stand alone on a quiet beach is magical, uplifting and healthy for my soul,” says Squires. “[I hope my work] creates tranquil visual reminders for people to relax and take time for themselves.”

Jennifer’s haunting photos of Canadian beaches in winter graced the pilot edition of Wayfare. Here, she shares a few of her favorite places for our weekly “Places We Heart” (#placesweheart) series.

Travel authority Samantha Brown, host of Samantha Brown’s Great Weekends on the Travel Channel, didn’t just wake up one day and land what she calls the “best job in the world.”  She spent eight years in New York City hoping to become a star on Broadway, squeezing in auditions in between waitressing shifts. As it turned out, Broadway’s loss was the Travel Channel’s gain. For over a decade, Brown has traversed the globe hosting shows like Samantha Brown’s Asia, Passport to Latin America, Passport to Europe and Great Hotels for the network, winning over fans with her likeable, approachable style.

When the television show Pan Am debuted this past fall, we were glued to the screen for the style as much as the story. The show inspired our “Time Traveler” series in the pilot edition of Wayfare, in which we sourced travel-friendly finds inspired by the glamour and luxury of an earlier era. Here are a few more modern-day throwbacks to the golden age when travel was a treat instead of a slog.

// Off Season: In Praise of Wintery Beaches

Ever since the snowy beach scene in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I’ve longed to vacation on the beach in the dead of winter. It just seems so romantic; towns that we’re used to visiting during the hectic tourist hubbub of July and August all tucked to bed and hushed under a blanket of white. No traffic. No agendas. Just the wind in the dunes, the silence, and the world’s greatest excuse to devour a tower of books. Or take a (bundled up) walk. Or put on your favorite record, pour a glass of wine, and cook something delicious.

Based in Berlin, the brothers and co-founders behind the highly curated Welcome Beyond, Chris and Oliver Laugsch, know their way around the design-centric travel circuit. In fact, when they started their sharp-looking vacation rental site two years ago, the idea grew organically from shared personal passions—traveling, architecture and good design. “The concept just seemed right,” says Chris. We tend to agree. All of the dreamy properties featured on their site blend architecture and design—of all shapes and stripes—with the cultural identity of each destination.

Confession: Wayfare wants a “Land Yacht.”

Whenever we have a free moment, we inevitably find ourselves researching vintage airstream trailers. It’s our dream to rescue one from the scrapheap of history, and remodel it into a roving Wayfare HQ.
