CAMBAC LEAD ON TAXI MARSHALS

spacer
CAMBAC are pleased to announce that Cambridge Community Safety Partnership have allocated additional funding to extend the Taxi Marshal Pilot following its success at the St Andrews Street rank in December. The pilot was extended to cover selected weekends in January, February and March and will operate every weekend in June, July and August. The team of marshals from Hyline Security have a Cambac radio linked to the Police and CCTV, as well as a headcam to film any incidents.

Chief Inspector Vicky Skeels of Cambridgeshire Constabulary said:
“The level of public order offending in the city centre did not peak during December as is often anticipated and I am sure that the positive and proactive work of the Taxi Marshals, also supported by other initiatives, such as increased police patrols and the emergency medical and care facility contributed to this.
The continued management of the taxi queues through this scheme will help to ensure that people are getting to their next destination safely.”

Tony Harold, General Manager, Hyline Security said: As a company we are very pleased with how the public have responded to this initiative, helping to enhance Cambridge as a safe city to visit. Over 10,000 people have already benefited from this scheme, which has enjoyed the full support of the local taxi companies and local authorities.

STAYING SAFE IN THE SUMMER

Fortune cookies, keyrings and wise words of advice were freely distributed on our open green spaces in August. One warm Friday evening, a happy multi-agency crew of Cambac, Police, City Rangers and the Council CHYPPS team patrolled Parkers Piece, Christs Piece, Millpond and Jesus Green to warn people to keep their belongings near them and not to be distracted by pickpockets. This was in direct response to a rise in theft on open spaces in the Summer and Cambac were keen to spread the word to keep our city safe for residents and visitors alike.

Many thanks to PC Carole Langton, who once again, took up the gauntlet with Vicky to promote Community Safety messages to the public.

SAFE SEX AND SENSIBLE DRINKING

Spooky Halloween week saw PC Langton, University Liaison Officer, Gemma from the Chlamydia Screening Team and Vicky, our Cambac Manager, out on the streets in rather fetching fancy dress to promote a sensible drinking and safe sex message to students in city centre pubs, clubs and college bars. PC Langton said: “We definitely don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun. The idea of the campaign is to offer some advice on staying safe and healthy in the city. There is a serious message but it’s delivered in a light-hearted way.” Cambac would like to thank all the licensees who supported us and special thanks go to Co-op Foodstores, for donating 1000 Halloween lollipops to give away during the campaign – a proven technique to reduce noise outside licensed premises apparently!

CAMBAC AT BRC CONFERENCE

Cambac were extremely honoured when invited to talk at the recent British Retail Consortium Conference in Oxford. Vicky was assisted by PC Paul Adams to deliver the CAMBAC presentation on Partnership Working and the Night Time economy at the annual conference on business crime. Paul & Vicky said ‘We were thrilled to represent Cambac and the Constabulary at such a prestigeous event and we thouroughly enjoyed the experience.’
