What is it about Brighton, UK that breeds such a lot of wonderful creativity? It’s got awesome music, it’s got more great food than you can shake a stick at, and it’s full of incredibly intelligent geeks. We’ve had so many foED authors, reviewers, and other allies hailing from Brighton. But it is a wonderful place…I’d visit it more often if I didn’t live so danged far away from it (I’m up in Manchester, the other end of the country pretty much!)

Anyhow, this year we at the ED are attending a couple of great technology events in Brighton. In a week’s time, it’s d.Construct, put together by Andy and the rest of those groovy guys at Clearleft. This is all about web standards, Ajax, and all of that other modern web design and development goodness (dare I say it, Web 2.0…yeuch, still can’t stand that term!) Anyhow, there’s some great speakers listed on the speakers page, so it should be great.
Then in December, we’ve got Flash on the Beach, which is all about…guess what? Tiddlywinks? NO! It’s a 3 day Flash conference, featuring talks by a plethora of foED authors past and present, including Keith Peters, Peter Elst, Tink, Aral Balkan, Rich Leggett, Craig Swann, and erm, Jeremy Keith, who’s gonna tell all the Flash fanatics how Ajax is gonna kick Flash’s ass

Ok, only joking. He’s doing a presentation called “Ajax: Flash Killer?”, which should indeed be very interesting and thought provoking. It often seems to me to be a case of “never the twain shall meet” - I observe this regularly, being someone who has a lot to do with both the Standards/Ajax, and Flash communities.

Anyhow, It’ll be nice to see you goood people there, whichever one you make it along to!
