New contests: Health, wealth and happiness

by sarah on March 2, 2012

We love sharing some of the contests run on WizeHive. This week, we have three contests to highlight with great prizes, touching stories and celebrating good causes.

Mango Financial is running a contest asking people to share their savings goals. The contest is switching from entries to the voting phase next week. If you’ve got time this weekend, enter right away!

spacer The UK’s National Autistic Society is celebrating their 50th birthday with a photo competition. Submit a photo showing what friendship means to you. There are some beautiful pictures to check out, but be warned, you’ll want to have a tissue or two close at hand.

spacer Nashville’s HMS HospitalIT contest, Good for the Heart is announcing winners next week. The contest is only open to customers and employees of Healthcare Management Systems. We think it’s a great way for HMS HospitalIT to say thanks while celebrating American Heart Month.

Conversion rate on online applications

by sarah on February 29, 2012

Have you ever wondered how many people you can expect to apply to your online scholarship or grant? You aren’t the only one. As there are so many factors that contribute to conversions, it is tricky to give a concrete number as an answer. For example, is there anything unusual happening on your website? Have you done any marketing to people that would be interested in completing the online application? Every additional click will mean less conversions on your form.

spacer Although online scholarship and grant applications are different from sales, we can learn from what retail websites do to increase conversions. Here are a few key tips to help ensure that as many people as possible are filling out their applications:

1. Define nice versus necessary. If you want people to make it all the way through their application form, give them less to answer. Think about each question you put on your application as an opportunity for people to abandoned the application.

2. Ask people what’s stopping them from finishing. Often, a quick reminder that they need to finish before the deadline is all that’s needed to spur them into action. People are busy and love to procrastinate. Help them to not miss a deadline by emailing them a reminder to get the application done.

3. Validation from a 3rd party. The more legitimate your scholarship or grant looks, the more people will be willing to fill out the application. Include information on previous recipients, including what they’ve done with their grant, or what school they went to with their scholarships. If you have high profile judges reviewing applicants, create an area to showcase thier bios, or an area to discuss the history and sponsors of the scholarship or grant.

4. Track and modify each year. Once applications are closed, find out what works and where people got stuck. From there, tweak the application process each time to include additioanl information, helpful links,

5. Explain everything. If you are asking people to gather information that takes more effort than recalling something from memory, include an explanation of why it is important. Also, ask people to preview the application to ensure each question is very clear and that there is no room for misunderstanding.

The 2012 Rodeo Rockstar Competition Heats Up: Top Ten Videos in Each Category to Perform Live at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™

by sarah on February 23, 2012

spacer The 2012 Rodeo Rockstar Competition is open to non-professional competitors who wish to showcase their musical talents. In addition to performing live at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, all competitors making it to the preliminary round will receive a trophy and a Rodeo Rockstar gift bag. First, second and third place winners in each division will receive an additional cash prize.

Public voting on audition videos through WizeHive is now closed. The top 10 auditions in each division will advance to a Preliminary Round, with the top 5 moving into a Final Round. There are two divisions and competitors have been entered into a division based on age criteria; the junior division for competitors ages 6 to 15 and the youth division for competitors ages 16 to 21.

Involving the public in a contest like The Rodeo Rockstar Competition is a smart move for The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. They are reducing the chance of missing a surprise hit, while building excitement for the event. We loved watching all the videos! If you are in Houston, be sure to catch the action.

Cayman Islands Ministry of Tourism Continues Scholarship Program for Students Planning Careers in Tourism

by sarah on February 20, 2012

spacer The Ministry of Tourism is once again inviting applicants for the Ministry of Tourism Scholarship Program. Caymanians wishing to pursue a Bachelor degree in a tourism or tourism-related discipline are urged to apply for one of the available scholarships. Also, secondary consideration will be given for tourism or tourism related studies for Masters degrees. The scholarship represents the Government’s effort to facilitate more Caymanian involvement in the tourism industry

Since its inception in 1996, this annual scholarship has awarded over 95 students either full or partial scholarships. Many of these students have gone on to work full time in the tourism industry, and some of the “Ministry’s graduates” now hold senior positions at the Department of Tourism and other tourism establishments, most notably the Department of Tourism’s Director, Shomari Scott, acting.

One of the primary goals of the scholarship is to attract a steady stream of skilled and enthusiastic tourism professionals who can actively contribute to the future prosperity of the tourism sector. The Ministry and Department of Tourism are working hard to achieve this through the Scholarship Program and through other initiatives such as the Tourism Apprenticeship Training Program.

Local students were awarded MOT scholarships in disciplines such as Marketing, Public Relations and Communications, Tourism and Environmental Management, Hotel Management, Travel Tourism and Hospitality and the Visual Arts at universities and colleges in the US, England and Canada.

We’ve made some big changes to the way forms look

by sarah on February 18, 2012

Many of the updates to WizeHive today are thing you’ll notice, right away. The biggest changes are to the login screen, menus and navigation on our application forms.

First, since thousands of applicants submit applications each day through WizeHive, we thought we’d streamline the layout and update the graphics on the login screen. Here’s what it looks like:

spacer Another change is the look and feel of the window used to manage an application form. We’ve updated links to buttons and formatted the sections.  In addition, we now have an HTML editor for the places in WizeHive you can use HTML text.

spacer Other changes  include:

  • Tab appearance for forms with multiple upload fields:  When you have a form with multiple upload fields, we can now display the file names as tabs in the order in which they were on the form, using the field names showing on the form.
  • Application start and end dates/times:  Our application forms now have the ability to set a start time and end time for an application, in addition to the date.
  • A new assignment screen:  You can not only assign applications to an individual judge to review…but you can assign an entire folder for review – and it will dynamically keep the assignments fresh.  In other words, if you use assignments on a review portal and assign a folder to specific reviewer; they will always see the contents of that folder when they sign into the review portal.
  • When you have a form with multiple upload fields we used to display the file name as tabs when you went to review the form.   That often was meaningless because the file names were meaningless.  Now we display the file names in the order they were on the form and using the field names showing on the form.   So if you have “Resume” as the field name in one place and “Reference” in another; they will be the tabs you see for each candidate.
  • Our application forms now have the ability to not only set the start date and end date for an application – but they can now also have a start time and end time… so applications can be set to turn on or off in advance at any time.
  • For our self service contests we now automatically generate an email to the entrant on your behalf thanking them for their entry.   Inside the self service contest screen you can set the “from” email address information.
  • We also added a checkbox in the self service contest system so you can turn on or off the display of vote counts.
  • And, while we are on the self service contest, you can now easily generate a receipt for the contest once you have paid.

As always, we love hearing feedback on what we’ve launched, drop us a line anytime.

Bond No. 9 Launches A Love Affair with New York Online Contest

by sarah on February 15, 2012

spacer Bond No. 9, the perfumery that marks every New York neighborhood with a scent, has launched an online contest to celebrate The Empire State. Entrants are asked to upload a  picture, a drawing, a sketch or collage they’ve created through the Bond no. 9 website or Facebook fan page. The uploaded images, which can include photos, words and symbols should be a visual love letter to New York.

Friends and family can vote on contest entries between March 2 and April 1, 2012. The three entries that resonate most with voters will each be awarded The Bond No. 9 I Love New York Collection. The second luxury eau de parfum collection by the brand, the I Love New York collection is inspired by the entire State of New York.

Online contests are a great way for retailers to thank their customers. We like how Bond No. 9 is going beyond that by finding out what their customers really love about New York. They are gathering important demographic information from the people that buy Bond No. 9 perfumes.

The Bond No. 9 collection of women’s, men’s, and unisex eaux de parfum — has a dual mission: To restore artistry to perfumery, and to mark every New York neighborhood with a scent of its own. Each fragrance represents a specific downtown, midtown, or uptown locale or a city-wide sensibility. With new introductions in the coming seasons, Bond No. 9 infuses the island of Manhattan with scents.

Enter your ode to New York today!

Enter the Hult Global Case Challenge Online Competition

by sarah on February 2, 2012

Three winning teams will compete in the Global Finals for a chance to have their solution implemented at Habitat for Humanity, Solar Aid or One Laptop per Child through a US$1 million grant

spacer The Hult Global Challenge (Hult GCC) invites college and university students from around the world to solve the world’s most pressing social challenges. Through a strategic partnership with the Clinton Global Initiative, the Hult GCC has committed to working with fellow CGI commitment makers on solving real-world social challenges.

From now until February 25, online entries are open for teams of students from around the world. Voting for the online competition takes place between February 25 and March 9, with plenty of time before the Global Finals on April 26.

Speakers and guests for the Global Finals include President Bill Clinton and Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The event is an opportunity for participants to connect and learn from global business leaders. Participants also have the chance to meet like-minded change-makers, forging opportunities to collaborate on future projects.

Last year’s case studies were based on the challenge of providing clean water in partnership with Water.org, founded by Gary White and Matt Damon. While only one winner from each track will be selected, it is only the start for innovative ideas. Regional winners from Boston were so passionate about the team’s pilot idea last year, they went on to pitch the idea to venture capitalists and found additional funding for their project.

Check out their video for a more in depth explanation of the Hult Global Case Challenge.
