QUEBECS MARIOTTI SOLD TO PHILLY

The Can-Am League announced that the contract of Quebec Capitales RHP John Mariotti has been purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies. Mariotti (pictured) is the third player sold from the league in 2012 (Peter Fatse to Baltimore and Chris Colabello to Minnesota).
The Woodbridge, ON resident had a superb 2011 campaign for the league champion Capitales.

The Independent Prospect Tournament's All-Tournament Team was announced today. The was selected by the four field managers and tournament director.
There were three players from the Can-Am League named to the squad: New Jersey Jackals 3B Nick Giarraputo (pictured) and RHP Zach Woods and Newark Bears 2B Danny Bomback.

5-RUN NINTH GIVES NABL TOURNAMENT TITLE OVER CAN-AM LEAGUE

St. Petersburg, FLYuma catcher Zach Larsons one out, 2-run single highlighted a 5-run ninth as the North American League defeated the Can-Am League 5-2 to win the first-ever Independent League Prospect Tournament at Al Lang Stadium in St Petersburg, Florida. Nick Giarraputos (New Jersey) solo homerun was the Can-Am Leagues only hit over the first eight innings.
The Can-Am League, which made it to the championship game by defeating the Frontier League 6-0 on Saturday, mounted a valiant attempt in the ninth inning, but the effort was snubbed when Billy Alvinos (Newark, pictured)) line drive off Tom Boleska with runners on first and second, was caught by 2B Danny Gonzalez. Gonzalez then stepped on second to complete the double play to end the game, giving the NABL the Bob Flori Trophy which is given to the winner of the Independent League Prospect Tournament.

LATE SURGE PUSHES AA PAST CAN-AM LEAGUE 7-5

St. Petersburg, FL--- The American Association clinched the No. 1 seed in the inaugural Independent Prospect Tournament by scoring 7 runs between the sixth and eighth innings to post a come-from-behind victory over the Can-Am League. Alan Ricks (Lincoln) two-run double gave the AA a 2-1 lead in the sixth. The Can-Am League came back with 3 runs in the top of the seventh, thanks to a homerun by Danny Bomback (Newark, pictured).
The Can Am League, which dropped to 3-4, will play the #3 seed Frontier League(3-4) at 1:00 pm Saturday. The AA(5-2) will play the North American League (3-4) at 5:00 pm Saturday in the second game of the single elimination playoff round. The winners will play Sunday at 1:00 pm at Al Lang Stadium.

The initial Independent Baseball Prospect Tournament does not end its 10-day run at Al Lang Field in St. Petersburg, FL, the long time spring training home to the likes of the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets and Yankees, until Sunday, and the chatter already is starting about building a better event one year from now.
We have already had preliminary talks about how we can make it more of a big deal, said Miles Wolff (pictured), who was responsible for starting the unaffiliated brand of professional baseball 20 seasons ago.

Nick Giarraputos (New Jersey, pictured) four RBI day got the Can-Am League back on track with an 8-2 victory over the surging Frontier League. The Can Am League got on the board first when Jerod Edmondson (Worcester) hit a solo homerun with two out in the third inning.
However, the day belonged to Giarraputo as he stepped to the plate in the sixth and smacked a two-out single to give the Can-Am League the lead for good at 4-2. He then added a one-out two-run double in the eighth scoring Matt Nandin (Rockland) and Danny Bomback (Newark). Zach Woods (New Jersey) and Jake Hale (New Jersey) were stellar on the mound for the Can-Am League which now evens its record at 3-3.
