1972 The Godfather hits theaters, the Winter Olympics are held in Sapporo, and Nixon goes to China. That same year, Europe 72 is released and quickly becomes a watershed in the Grateful Dead's body of work. Sonic Studio's technology was used on the original CD masters of this iconic work, and now 40 years later Sonic Studio's tools are being used again for the upcoming release of the complete Europe 72 tour, a total of 22 venues, over 400 songs, as a 70+ CD release. Sonic Studio tools including soundBlade, secureDDP, and Amarra are all being employed to maintain the highest quality standards required for an iconic tour as Europe 72.
Dave Glasser is adding the final mastering polish and works with Jeffrey Norman of Mockingbird Mastering. David Gans, Jeffrey Norman and Airshow Mastering's Dave Glasser all value the fidelity and editorial power of soundBlade. Jeffrey Norman says, "I wouldn't consider editing in any other platform but soundBlade. It sounds great and, as far I'm concerned, is completely intuitive."
The music starts with Jeffrey Norman who is mixing the entire tour at Prairie Sun studios in Sonoma County, California. Jeffrey mixes through a custom 8026 Neve console through a Pacific Microsonics Model Two. The stereo stem is transferred into soundBlade for editing and cleanup. The finished takes are then encrypted using Sonic Studio's secureDDP and safely sent by Airshow Mastering in Boulder to Jeffrey and David Lemieux, Grateful Dead Archivist, for reference and further mastering.
David Glasser uses his soundBlade and Sonic Studio 303 Audio Interface to edit the shows, and receives a soundBlade Project each week. "We're loving it". David also adds "the ability to safely send masters using secureDDP is essential for this workflow." Using high performance encryption ensures that the masters are safe and the built-in audio player provides a complete integrated solution.
This year visitors' should plan on stopping by Adebar Acoustics in Hall 5.1 at Booth A87. Be sure to see demonstrations of the PreMaster CD, soundBlade, and Amarra VINYL Restoration applications at the upcoming Musikmesse Show in Frankfurt Germany from April 6-9, 2011.

sB 1.2.2 Ships with Free Sonic EQ le
We’ve announced the release of a new version our flagship professional product, soundBlade, along with a new, no–cost version of Sonic EQ that accompanies this release. Running natively on the secure and user friendly Mac OS X, soundBlade relies on Core Audio for default I/O so hardware lock–in is eliminated. The 1.2.2 release incorporates hundreds of optimizations and stability enhancements.
A new twist for Sonic Studio is the release of Sonic EQ le, a free version of their legendary equalization, and a welcome addition to any engineer’s audio toolkit. Sonic EQ le is a proprietary implementation of equalizer that includes three different filter types, including a first order parametric, along with first order high and low shelves. In a departure from previous Sonic EQ releases, Sonic EQ le can also be used with any Mac audio product that hosts VST plug –ins…MORE.

PMCD™ 3 is Released
We’ve also announced the release of a completely new version of our low cost premastering application, PreMaster CD™. The 3.0 release provides native support for both Intel and PowerPC hosts. This new, Universal Binary release consolidates all the maintenance changes incorporated into the code base while improving both ease of use, speed and stability on all Intel and PowerPC Macs.
PreMaster CD opens up a portable treasure chest of expert premastering features, including completely manual, automatic and semi–automatic PQ generation. Sonic Studio’s exclusive Smart Fade Tool and background CD writing, along with easy drag and drop resequencing makes quick work of CD refs. The new version, which includes enhanced dither choices, adds iZotope’s proprietary MBIT+™ redithering algorithm to Sonic Studio’s spectrally shaped TPDF redithering. Both choices are psychoacoustically–optimized redithering schemes, each with a different sonic “color,” so you can match your redithering choice to your material…MORE.
PreMaster CD Aces Three Reviews
From Greece, the March issue of SoundMaker ran a review of PreMaster CD and, not surprisingly, our product gets two thumbs up!
Larry DeVivo reviewed PreMaster CD in Issue #55 of Tape Op Magazine…“All in all, I’m very happy with Sonic Studio’s PreMaster CD. It will be my first choice in assembling masters to send to the manufacturing plant from now on. A powerful program with a tried and true heritage available as native software for the Mac at a reasonable price.” Read the review.
Erik Zobler reviewed PreMaster CD in the December 2006 issue of Mix Magazine…“I'm sold on the benefits of PMCD as a highly evolved, powerful tool for audio CD preparation that delivers high-quality masters on a superior format at a very reasonable price.” Read the review.
Intel Compatibility
Apple’s consumer and pro lines are all fitted with Intel processors. Although PreMaster CD 3 is a Universal Binary (UB) release, soundBlade runs well on Intel–equipped Macs. We at Sonic Studio are committed to Universal support of all our products for Mac OS and expect to have a UB version of soundBlade ready for Fall AES.
