McCann Cup 2012 – Winners All Around

spacer The McCann Cup Road Race celebrated its tenth anniversary today at the Halfway House in Seskinore and it couldn’t have been better. The weather stayed dry, there were good fields for all three afternoon races not to talk of the morning races featuring the best of the women and master’s riders.

Omagh Wheelers know how to welcome riders and their friends and this was obvious from the great turn-out of family members and spectators. It reminded me a bit of when I was younger and a Sunday afternoon was not spent in front of a television set but instead was a family day out, often to watch a sporting event.… Read more

spacer There was a full complement of riders lined up for today’s Wallace Caldwell Memorial Race promoted by Ballymena RC. Tough climbs at Cam Forest, Springwell and the ‘sting in the tail’ at Tully ensured that this was no easy race. However with full PSNI motorbike outrider support the event moved smoothly through the towns and villages enoute.… Read more

spacer Newry Wheelers had their orders in early for someone to turn on the sunshine for their promotion of the John Haldane memorial road race. Despite the cold it was pleasant out of the wind on the Newry to Warrenpoint dual carriageway as full fields lined up for the two races on offer.

Hawkins and McAuley Dominate Carryduff

spacer With two races on offer, both filled to capacity, rolly roads and aggressive riding, all was set for exciting racing at Carryduff today when Castlereagh CC promoted their annual John Moore Memorial road race. Although the sun shone making racing conditions good, the bitter winds ensured that only those racing felt any warmth.

In the A race for the A1’s. 2’s and 3’s there was a two and a half minute handicap separating each of the three groups on the road. The A3 bunch was large with a lot of determined riders out to make their mark early on.… Read more
