Intuition and science

The trouble with intuition is that sometimes the world acts in ways that are counter intuitive. That's where science steps in.

spacer It seems that reductions in Arctic Ice cover are responsible for the increased snowfalls in the northern hemisphere over the past few winters. That is, global warming is leading to greater snow falls. Not immediately obvious, but it has to do with the changes this causes in wind patterns and in increased atmospheric moisture.

Need to move beyond nations to have any hope of global climate action

Today UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon says that a climate change treaty may be beyond reach. The impasse is the same as at all other negotiations on climate change treaties. Industrial countries, in particular the US, will not sign an agreement that does not include binding targets for developing countries.
