Delivering the new “Holding Out For A Hero” talk at the prestigious “Excellence Awards” Dinner at the Metrodome on Thursday 30th June, to an audience of nearly 400 business leaders, local councillors, MPs and the students who won the awards.

Darren Smithson has over the years done talks on science and technology, business practice, community development, regeneration and local government. He has delivered to audiences all over the world and to such organisations as the MOD, SITA, BA, the RAC, York Science College, Exeter University, The London Stock Exchange, Fujitsu-Siemens, CHS Ltd, Carpetrite, Barnsley College and to a conference of 300 senior managers from Europe’s largest IT companies ranging from IBM & Microsoft to Toshiba and Bull.

His talks are fast paced, fun, interactive and provocative and cover such esoteric topics as the multiple universe theory; what is life; what is intelligence and can we create it artificially; should robots have rights; is time travel possible; do aliens exist; where will we be in 50 years time; how will technology affect our businesses, communities and schools; and are we humans merely parasites inhabiting a living organism?

On the more down to Earth side, he has sessions on time and prioritisation management, how to motivate you and your teams, goal setting and business planning, crime and safety basics, the need for alternate business practices, education and learning processes, why regeneration programmes fail, and the use of science to raise aspirations.

He is now working on two new talks- one on the mystery of our universe’s creation and existence, called “Through the Universe Darkly”, and another about The Big Society and what it all means called “The Big Society: Real Opportunity for Change or Camouflage for Cuts?”.

His books, “The 50 Year Horizon: Science & Technology For Non-Believers” and “What Managers Don’t Know & Workers Can’t Tell Them” will be published in Jan 2012 and March 2012 respectively.

Example talks include:

An outstanding, jaw dropping insight into.. well everything! It’s a shame when you only have hours to spend listening to Darren. You will want more!”
