Wicked Cool Technology – QR Codes!

Quick Response Codes – Intrigue with Ingenuity!

spacer Does the box on the left look like a scrambled print of a Sudoku puzzle?

Perhaps an eye chart to convince you that you really do need glasses? You may have seen them and wondered what they were. This ONE SMALL SQUARE can give your business the boost you’ve been waiting for!

QR Codes, like this one, can be scanned with many of today’s modern mobile phones and will quickly download information such as your web site url, phone numbers, coupons for products, business locations, and special events to the user’s smartphone as a bookmark, location or contact. Some modern mobile phones already have a barcode scanning application installed, others allow you to download the free application for your particular smartphone model.
It takes only a few moments to download the app, if necessary. Next, with the application open, just aim your smartphone camera at the QR code. In just seconds, your desired communication will lead the mobile phone consumer to special offers, include your web site as a favorite link, add an email address to receive special promotions. Your imagination sets the limit!

Smartphones can “read” the QR codes off your computer screen, from print advertising, store shop windows, signs, billboards, t-shirts, temporary tattoos, etc. Place your QR code on your web site, Facebook fan page or blog; send a marketing email, create a new page promoting a service, special discount or offering with your message! Linking to a page on your website will instantly increase your web site traffic! Create and send a postcard or other print materials to clients with instructions on how to scan the code. Your customer will, at the very least, be amazed in your technology savvy!

Come on, you know you want to! Find your barcode scan application on your smart phone, install it and take a picture of the square. It’s easy and fun! Now, think of how many different ways we can help you use this tool to your advantage today!

Google PageRank. Is it really that important? Maybe not.

October 21st, 2010

What is Google PageRank?
Well it is a tool invented by Google to help determine how relevant a webpage is to a given topic. First introduced during foundation days of Google by Larry Page (Co-Founder of Google) who felt it was their “key innovation” because it helped them deliver the most relevant search results. Today, it is still a good gauge on relevance, but it should not be given too much glorification. It is NOT the only determining factor influencing Google search results. Truth be told, content is still the biggest factor! Lets look at content and PageRank in a little more detail.

Creative Inspiration

May 3rd, 2010

Art is a funny thing. It’s all relevant to where you are viewing it from, this is true both figuratively and literally. Sometimes as an artist you need to push the envelope, bring to light a message in a way that is fresh, different and hope that it’s original. One of my professors told me that it has all been done before, so look to the work of others for inspiration, grow, twist and morph it to make it your own.

As graphic designers we are modern artists, commissioned to bring visual messaging to life. Each client needs their own personal appearance, their own identity to distinguish them from the overwhelming sea of competition. On occasion, we are confronted with a project that will let you push the visual envelope and art can come out of design not only functional communication.

The banner at the top of this blog was inspired by the work of one of my favorite designers, David Carson. His work has been embraced world wide as being innovative and pushing the envelope of legible typography. His popular origins started in the surf and skateboarding culture in the late 80’s and into the 90’s. Most memorable to many, would be his role as art director of “Ray Gun” which was an alternative rock and roll magazine.

If you’re curious take a look at some of his work

Live more & work less

April 21st, 2010

When I think about things that would help me to build our business the first thing that comes to mind is not working less! However, that’s the premise behind the book, The Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. I must admit when I first heard about this book I was a bit skeptical. First of all, why would anyone want to work just four hours a week? And if they did, how on earth could it be done without making life even more stressful? Bill are bills. No matter how many hours are worked we still need to make the money to pay our bills!

As I began the read this book I quickly discovered that Tim’s main value proposition was not working less at all, rather it’s living more by being more productive at work! Ok, now I’m less skeptical. Read the rest of this entry »
