The List Eating and Drinking Guide 2010/11 21/6/2010

“Dedicated to lovely things that come from hot ovens, Peter´s Yard is a laid-back, light, modern temple to Swedish goodness, right beside the Meadows. There´s a long, communal table in the middle of the space where mums, students, academics and dog-walkers tuck into simple food done really, really well. A typical lunch could be a big bowl of home-made soup (served with three hunks of super-yummy bread), or a traditional open sandwich with smoked salmon, or a huge sourdough roll stuffed with salami and brie. Bread, cakes, pastries and crispbread are available to buy in the shop and online and are outrageously good – this is one baker which truly deserves the artisan prefix.

Finding a seat can be a challenge at lunchtimes, but on sunny days take-away and alfresco picnic in the Meadows is a real treat. All in, good stuff with a slow-food take on what´s often the most rushed meals of the day”

Fine Food Digest- April 2010: 1/4/2010

spacer “The acidity of goat’s cheese requires a biscuit that’s crisp yet light in order to enjoy the flavours of the milk. We are really loving Peter’s Yard Crispbread round biscuits at the moment, made to a traditional Swedish recipe using rye and wheat flour, and a perfect thin and crunchy texture.”

“Peter’s Yard, the Edinburgh-based bakery and coffee shop, has done something amazing – it has created an interesting crispbread. This neither looks nor tastes like polystyrene packaging, but is instead made from a traditional Swedish recipe using sourdough, milk, rye flour and honey. Valentine Warner, the TV chef thinks it goes well with gravadlax.“ Read more at www.telegraph.co.uk

"Quite simply a must" 15/11/2009

spacer The Larder reviews Peter’s Yard.

“An extraordinary emporium dedicated to fresh, natural and quality produce, Peter’s Yard is a haven for foodies. It has a passion for bread, believing it to be fundamental to a modern, healthy lifestyle, and is determined to establish a food culture in which bread plays the starring role. This should not be a problem as its range of artisan breads, produced using a stone-oven, is phenomenal and includes authentic Swedish rye and kavring. It sells sandwiches, muffins, innovative breakfasts and cakes to take away or enjoy in situ, as well as a staggering range, from biscuits and baking to conserves and chocolate.
Quite simply a must.”

“With the aim of bringing ‘fika’ – a Swedish tradition where friends and family take time out to enjoy good food, coffee and company – to the capital, Peter Ljungquist opened Peter’s Yard bakery and coffee-house in Edinburgh’s Quartermile at the end of 2007. Its crispbread, made to a traditional Swedish sourdough recipe, has proved such a hit that it has been launched nationwide. Pile on the smoked salmon, cheese or a bit of whatever takes your fancy, and voilà, your very own smorgasbord!”

The Sunday Telegraph - August 2009 1/8/2009

For Peter’s Sake
spacer “Peters Yard has made crispbreads cool. It’s rustic discs are made to an old Swedish recipe and all ingredients are natural – milk, rye flour, whole-wheat flour, sourdough and honey.”

BBC Olive Magazine - August 2009 1/8/2009

spacer “Swedish born Peter Ljunquist has a passion for artisan baking, as well as the Scottish capital. Last year he combined the two in his deli-café. It’s an appealing Scandinavian-style space: glass-fronted, light and airy, full of cleanly displayed cakes and bread. The speciality breads, such as Levain, a yeastless sourdough, or the classic Swedish crispbreads are great. “

Sunday Herald- Aug 2008 1/8/2008

“Peter’s Yard seems to have been jetted in from Planet Foodie, or failing that Sweden, to show us all what a really excellent bakery café can be like.” Read more…
