…..while in the midst of some serious celebrating at the Romance Writers of America National Conference Abigail said to Sharon, or maybe Sharon said to Abigail (we no longer recall), “We should form a blog for Austen fiction writers!” The other responded, “That is a fabulous idea! Let’s do it!” The Sourcebooks publicist heard of the concept and said, “That’s a fabulous idea! You should do it!” Then they boarded a jet plane for home, promptly got tied up with writing and book releases, and the idea became a distant memory among all the others clouding their minds after 4 days of non-stop excitement.
Skip forward almost exactly one year to the next RWA conference, Abigail and Sharon again meet up in a hot, humid city – this time Orlando, Florida – and the blog idea resurfaces. Again they said, “Let’s do it!” with their publicist and editor chiming in with great enthusiasm. This time they decided it really, REALLY should be followed up on, especially with the list of published Austen novelist growing larger by the day. Determined not to have the idea shoved into the few brain cells not taken up with other book-related stuff, they doggedly began swapping emails and ideas. Within two weeks a list of hopefuls was compiled and invitations were sent. Then they waited with bated breath.
You know what happened? The wait was remarkably short! Positive responses streamed in. Their original list of 10 grew as requests to join streamed in from around the world. The opportunity to share their love of Jane Austen and personal contribution to her amazing world was happily embraced. It was phenomenal! Suddenly Abigail and Sharon were overwhelmed with the necessary tasks to bring the blog to fruition, but it was worth every moment.
Now we are up to the present. Sharon and Abigail are no longer alone in their dream to present readers of Austen a consolidated blog to learn of all the wonderful novels published by every publishing house that recognizes how hot this 200-year-old author is! Our goal is to shine the light on the varied visions that exist since every Austen writer is inspired differently. There are modern spins, sequels, retellings from a particular character’s point of view, the fill-in-the-blanks stories, secondary character novels, zombies and vampires, the What ifs?, and so much more.
Truly there is something out there for every Austen lover who, like us, simply WANTS MORE!
Austen Authors is a collective of published novelists in the Jane Austen sub-genre of literary fiction whose focus is on sharing our unique visions of Austen’s world through our blog posts and fun events as well as promoting the awareness of our genre and blog to the broader reading audience.
