How to fix broken URLs in ExpressionEngine

12 comments 2006 at 08.08 pm posted by Veerle

First of all, I’m back! The move went well. However, it’s a bit chaotic here. A lot of boxes still need to be unpacked. I tell ya this takes more then a Spring cleaning :) I’ve gathered too much stuff over the past 12 years. Oh well, at least I am connected already :) I thought this was a good moment to share a small but useful EE tip. Before ExpressionEngine version 1.5 there was this problem when people didn’t enter the full URL of an article page, EE loaded a rather messy page. Since 1.5 it’s easy to make sure all broken URLs don’t get a 404 error page or a messy page.

Winners of Veerle’s photo imaging contest

37 comments 2006 at 03.46 pm posted by Veerle

It has taken a while and some serious thinking, shifting, doubting… but eventually I’ve managed to get a list of winners. You guys and girls certainly didn’t make things easy for me. It’s so great and rewarding to see all those creative minds here :) Never in my wildest imagination would I have thought that the quality of entries would be that high, I totally underestimated this ;)

Veerle’s photo imaging contest

137 comments 2006 at 09.12 am posted by Veerle

A new week started and I hope the creative batteries are fully charged because it’s competition time boys and girls. Told you about it a week or so ago that I would do a creative contest to celebrate the launch of Expression Engine 1.5. Don’t worry if you are not that creative because everybody can join in. A good sense of humor is all you need to make a chance too.

ExpressionEngine 1.5

15 comments 2006 at 04.13 pm posted by Veerle

I am a bit late to the party but ExpressionEngine 1.5 is out. This weekend I updated this site without any problems. Only a .1 update but just look at the change log to see what great work the programmers at pMachine did. The added list is where you need to look and I’ll try to dig in a little deeper about what’s brand spanking new.

The implementation of my “Approved” template in Expression Engine

14 comments 2006 at 01.20 pm posted by Veerle

Time for a small Expression Engine tutorial (further referred to as EE). When I tried to add the pagination links on my Approved page I ran into trouble and my XHTML code didn’t validate. You always have to think carefully on where to put a particular closing tag or your code (and your layout) could get messed up.

Veerle now at home at pMachine Hosting

29 comments 2006 at 02.10 pm posted by Veerle

Sigh! When you have a huge pile of work it is not a good time to sort out hosting trouble let me tell you. But I kinda got forced into it because the site had been down twice in such a short amount of time. There were moments that I wished that I was on the beach away from it all! After some research and the real good experiences that I already had with the folks at pMachine I decided to park my blog at the most logical place that I could think of pMachine Hosting.

Implementation of my comments in Expression Engine

Some of you asked for an Expression Engine tutorial a while ago and I thought today would be a good moment to explain how I implemented the comment boxes on my site. There is a lot to talk about so lets move ahead and get on to it…

Most of you will already know that I use Expression Engine as tool for my site (further referred to as EE) and that I enjoy working with this tool mainly because of its flexibility and user friendlyness.

Expression Engine updates

24 comments 2006 at 04.08 am posted by Veerle

Work has been using up most of my time lately but I finally created some time to do a little work on this blog. Sometimes there are moments that you would like to drop everything work related and just play in the sandbox that this little blog is. When this blog launched in this design on March 1st I told you that I still needed to do some work. Well the first thing that I took to the drawing board are the search results and advanced search page. Before today these pages we’re still in the default look that you get when you install Expression Engine.

SXSW wrapping up

39 comments 2006 at 01.15 pm posted by Veerle

I’m sitting in the lounge, waiting for the cab to take us to the airport. SXSW is all wrapped up for us. The city has been taken over by all those weirdo rock types joining the music conference. Too bad that most of the people hanging around are less friendly, and that’s a bit of a downer after all those hugs and vibes going on yesterday. It feels like you’re left with an emptiness. It’s back to virtual again ;) One thing is for sure SXSW is very good for networking and making new friends. Finally we can put a face to all those bloggers, designers and developers.
