Winter Preparations

16-11-2006

We’ve finally gotten out into the garden and made a start on the winter preparations. Yesterday we went to the local garden centre and picked up some farm manure and today the sun decided to show a little so we made a start on getting the ground dug over. The main issue was to [...]

Fresh vs Packet

15-11-2006

After getting back home last weekend I ran through the freezer to see what needed eating before we go for a big shop to stock up again. I found a pack of mince so last night I cooked up a Bolognaise, adding in diced onion, spring onion, mushrooms, diced pepper and a couple of [...]

ADSL The Trilogy

15-11-2006

You knew it was coming… We came back home on Sunday, 3 days after the Broadband was ceased. Yet it was still working! So a call to BT Wholesale informed us that UKOL was still supplying us with ADSL. Even they didn’t give me a straight answer as to what was going on! So [...]

Well we’re back home now so things are a bit of a mess and we’re just trying to catch up on everything so it’s gonna be quiet this week.

The River Cottage Treatment

12-11-2006

I’ve been watching the new series of The River Cottage Treatment on Channel 4 in the UK. Hugh is taking on groups of people each week who all have a bad habit in common when it comes to food such as living off takeaways, living off ready meals, loving chicken but eating it from [...]

Growing Olives

11-11-2006

Heh no not me. I’m not really a fan of Olives at all. However my Dad loves Olives so after seeing an Olive tree for sale in a magazine I figured I’d tell my brother to get him one for Christmas. It’s the one thing that I don’t think he’s ever tried growing before [...]

Blogging for Business

10-11-2006

I decided to try an experiment of blogging to improve business on a fairly quiet site of mine. Last month I redeveloped a site of mine that sells osCommerce templates and eBooks. I’ve changed the site into using a blog on the front end and then link to the various pages selling the products. Over [...]

Review of the Good Food Show

10-11-2006

The Good Food Show started today for a 3 day show in London. We arrived just before 11am and the hall was already half full. However there were plenty of stalls there for everyone. We took a wander around the ground floor, watched a few demos and then had some lunch. Then wandered around the [...]

ADSL in 7 days!

09-11-2006

After waiting almost 10 days for a call back from UK Online today I called BT Wholesale and was informed that the cease on our line should be finished by midnight tonight at the latest. This means that tomorrow our new ISP can order a reconnection (at a price of £50) and have our ADSL [...]

Tangy Shepherds Pie

08-11-2006

Seeing as it’s been a while since I put up a recipe I thought I’d start with a good winter warmer. Now that the nights are getting cold, salads are really reserved for steaks and fajitas, and warm hot food is craved for more. Stodgier food is also usually a good idea to help you [...]

AdSense in rapid decline

08-11-2006

Despite some sites still doing okay with AdSense, our main site has dropped in visitors and subsequently in adsense income, which is to be expected. However my own Food and Drink Blog which used to make $1-2 a day is now making less than that a week despite the visitor numbers climbing. According to Google [...]

The week so far

08-11-2006

Still waiting on that 48 hour max call back from UK Online, ahh well the ADSL will probably be cut off by the end of the week leaving us free to get a proper company to deal with it! On the good news front, I’m off to the BBC Good Food show in London on Friday [...]

Les Cinqs Pattes - Bourdeaux White Wine

05-11-2006

Anyone who’s tasted this wine is lucky as it seems extremely hard to find! It’s a dry white wine that’s light and easy to drink, either on its own or with a meal. It’s not extremely dry so a small addition of soda water in the first glass may soften the taste, especially when drinking [...]

Food Show

05-11-2006

Sarah wrote recently about the Good Food show hosted by the BBC in Kensington Olympia which starts on Friday. It’s also on later in the month in Birmingham from the 22nd - 26th November. At present I’m in two minds as to whether to go and if so to which one. After all of our ADSL [...]

Cool Image Enlarger

03-11-2006

We’re just finishing off a site that has a photo gallery. Due to the inconsistency of the gallery I had to hardcode all 75 odd thumbnails into it, across about 5 pages. Of course with this in mind I didn’t want to sit and create a page for every image as well! Usually my gallery [...]

Weekly Roundup

03-11-2006

It’s been a long tiring stressful week. To sum it up… Monday - Tried to set up ADSL with a new provider having received a migration code from the old one. However the old one have now ordered a cancellation on our line (the day after they generated the 30 day code). The old provider deny [...]

October Earnings

02-11-2006

Last month’s earnings were down to just $138 for the month. The main reason was the decline in AdSense earnings, however the Text Link Ads plus a couple of eBook sales has helped keep the income reasonable. Final breakdown: Affiliate: $28.03 TLA/Advertising: $22.50 Products: $9.35 PPC: $78.44 I’m putting the drop in income down to mainly the lack of Blog postings [...]

Fraudulent Transaction?

31-10-2006

I’m not a seasoned Paypal seller (yet!) and I currently have a dilemma. Yesterday morning I awoke to a payment of £50 into my paypal account for a template off one of my sites. I’d also had an email just half an hour later from the supposed buyer requesting the template (I was in bed [...]

ADSL Woes Part Deux

30-10-2006

The sequel to ADSL Woes has already begun!! I have had such a **** day of phone calls. This morning I was given our Mac code for moving our Broadband to another supplier. All seemed fine, called the new company (I like a company that answers within 2 rings!) and set the ball in motion. [...]

New Herb Additions

29-10-2006

Out in Oxford on Friday I came across a shop that had a Bay Leaf Tree for sale outside. Whilst I didn’t have this on my list of herbs wanted my Mum happened to mention that my Uncle had one in his garden. Considering the tree was for sale at £17 I figured I’d rather [...]
