This is a Barton College Campus Weather Update for Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, 9 a.m.
Barton College has weathered Hurricane Irene, and the clean-up of debris and fallen trees continues throughout the weekend.
Power was restored to the campus yesterday, and no injuries have been reported.
The College is on a normal operating schedule.
Opening Worship will be held this morning at 11 a.m. in Howard Chapel.
The Opening Reception for the Il Libro: Art of the Book Exhibition will be held this afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Barton Art Galleries in Case Art Building.
Classes will be on a normal operating schedule on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011.

This is a Barton College Inclement Weather Update for 4:00 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2011.
Winds and rain from Hurricane Irene have begun to subside in Wilson. Power has been restored to campus, and no injuries have been reported on campus. Physical Plant has begun to assess water damage and to clean up debris and fallen trees, a process which will continue through the weekend.
ARAMARK Food Services will serve students dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the dining hall. Activities sponsored by the Campus Activities Board will also take place in the dining hall this evening.
Opening Worship in Howard Chapel is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 28, at 11:00 a.m.
The opening reception for the "Il Libro: The Art of the Book" exhibition is still on schedule for Sunday, Aug. 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Case Art Building.

This is a Barton College Campus Weather Update for Aug. 27, 2011.
At noon today, Wilson is still experiencing heavy rain and wind as Hurricane Irene moves NE along the North Carolina coast.
Barton College is currently without power, but has generators in place for emergency use.
ARAMARK Food Services served breakfast this morning and is preparing for a late lunch for students from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Evening dinner is planned for 4:30-6:30 p.m. with social activities scheduled this evening in the dining hall.
There are a number of trees across roadways in Wilson, including the neighborhood around the campus. Everyone is reminded to stay indoors until the storm had subsided and road crews have been able to remove trees and debris.
No injuries have been reported on campus. Barton College campus staff and the Wilson Police Department at the Barton College District Office continue to monitor the situation.

Currently, Wilson County is under a Hurricane Watch: The potential for hurricane conditions is good for the next 72 hours. Coastal areas of North Carolina are under a Hurricane s at 252-399-6868 (800-345-4973 x6868) for students and at 252-399-6600 (800-345-4973 x6600) for faculty and staff for updated information. You may also check facebook.com/bartoncollege and twitter.com/bartoncollege for the latest updates.
Residents on campus: be assured that ARAMARK Food Services will continue to serve meals. You will be advised if the locations and times change for meal service. Students on the Meal Plan PLEASE NOTE – Saturday, August 27, 2011, Meals are scheduled as follows:
Breakfast – 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. (Fruit and snacks will be available for students to take back to their rooms)
Midday Meal Weather Permitting – 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dinner – 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Should we experience severe weather, students, faculty and staff are advised to:
· Stay indoors and away from windows and glass doors.
· Close interior doors. Secure and brace external doors.
· Close window curtains and blinds.
· For shelter, find a small interior room on the lowest level of a building (hallways, etc.) and cover yourself with a sturdy object.
Remember to follow these standard safety precautions:
· Drive only when necessary and avoid flooded roads, washed-out bridges or standing water.
· Be aware of downed power lines. Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company. If you are in a vehicle around loose or downed power lines, DO NOT exit the vehicle until help arrives.
· Take the necessary precautions; stock extra batteries, water and non-perishable food items.
· Use flashlights in the dark. DO NOT use candles.
