Jazz Cafe Band

Jazz Caf Band Tourspacer

Arrans Jazz Caf Band has played trad jazz for the last few years to an enthusiastic core support in Whiting Bay. Line-up changes, and work on new material, led to the band 'touring' in 2011, bringing their music to a wider audience. Successful appearances all round the island opened up the idea of Sunday lunchtime Jazz as well as the discovery that the Jazz Caf experience goes down as well in a crowded bar as it does in a village hall. Appearances at the Isle of Arran Distillery Open Day, The Douglas Hotel official opening Champagne Reception, and on the PS Waverley in July 2011 raised the bands profile further. 2012 brings a lineup change and more new music. For full details of planned appearances, click HERE.

Recently described as never sounded better, the band has an extensive and eclectic repertoire, featuring the singing of Biff Simpson, and John Gibson's trombone. The programme ranges from standards like I Got Rhythm and Darktown Strutters Ball, to blues numbers (think Basin Street and Steamroller), through to the wistful Ill be Seeing You and the bawdy Tonights The Night. Further details about the Jazz Caf Bands gigs will be publicised in the Arran Banner, and are available by e-mail on request from: jazzcafeband@aim.com Use this address to request being added to the JCB mailing list.

2012 also marked the release of a debut album, entitled Just My Size, recorded and engineered at the LordJon studio at Machrie. The album sold well in the run-up to Christmas, - but some copies of the first run are still available on line (Click HERE), and at shops in Brodick and Whiting Bay.
