It was truly a great community event! Despite a driving rain (which thankfully let up just in time for the 2 runs), over 70 people came out to participate. Congratulations to all the runners. The 5k results are here. The 1mile sprint results are here. Photos can be seen here. Mike McGettigan's photos are here
We owe many thanks to a lot of people, local businesses, neighboring property owners and organizations who all pitched in to help make this first running event on the Banks a success. First, a hearty thanks to Mike Clavelli of Runners' Advocate for doing the timing, Mike McGettigan and Trophy Bikes for the sound system, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia for loaning their life-saving tents, water jugs and A-frames, PhillyCarSharefor the cool truck, The Philadelphia School for the tables and chairs, and Bacchus Market and Catering for the much appreciated coffee. Post-race food was donated by Whole Foods, Iovine Brothers and the Philadelphia Water Department. Prizes were generously donated by Rittenhouse Sports Specialties, Philadelphia Runner, World Cafe Live, Road ID, Tastebuds Market, SWEATand ZBSports. Goody Bag items were donated by REI, ZBSports, RoadID, Edgewater, University of Pennsylvania, Boundless Philadelphia, Whole Foods and Trophy Bikes. And thanks to Donna Storm from SWEAT who came out in the rain to warm people up. Many thanks to all of the 25 sponsors, which are listed below.
Runnin' On The River wouldn't have happend without its intrepid volunteers. Jerry Amari (who also came up with the winning name for the race!), Santo Apa, Dick Atkins, Perry Benson, Mark and Bridget Bullen, Alex and Felix Doty, Carolyn Duffy, Dave, Elizabeth Gutman, Rosemary Kuzner, Jon Landau, Sam Little, Carol Nowak, Marie O'Neill, Bill Piccini, Joan Rosoff, Dan Solis-Cohen, Rob and Marina Stuart and Aaya Kingsbury, Christian Stuempfig, and Andy Toy. Kevin Gruenfeld deserves special thanks for being the Uber volunteer who was the go-to guy for many planning and logistical questions and contributed much of his personal time to help plan the event.
Last but not least, we have to thank CSX for making a concerted effort to keep a long train that was due in away from the Park and the Locust Street crossing during our event. Bill Goetz of CSX came out around 8am to let us know that he had talked to the yardmaster and asked that the train be kept elsewhere or "break it" if it had to come to Locust Street. Thank you Bill and others at CSX for your consideration!! We really appreciate it!
