Book Review: The Colonel’s Lady by Laura Frantz
The Colonel’s Lady by Laura Frantz is set in the wild Kentucky territory during the Revolutionary War. Roxanna Rowen travels into the rugged terrain to see her military father, only to find out once she arrives that he has been killed. Having to remain in the fort, Roxanna has to face the perils and danger of life during the war, along with having to face the fort’s notorious commander Colonel Cassius McLinn. At first, Roxanna assumes many things about Cass without knowing the facts, greatly threatening their relationship. This reminds me of how we often act with others. It is human nature to be judgmental and develop impressions before actually knowing the person. Jesus warns against this when he says, “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment.” (Matthew 7:1, MSG) Instead, we are called to love others, no matter what they have done or what we have heard about them, just as Christ loves them.
The Colonel’s Lady is an excellent story with characters you will fall in love with. Laura Frantz depicts life on the frontier with such vivid imagery. This is definitely a story that will be remembered. I also highly recommend Courting Morrow Little by Laura Franz. You can find out more about both books at laurafrantz.blogspot.com/.
Until next time,
