Winners announced

Last night at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Conrad Hong Kong, the winners of the 2011 NCE International Tunnelling Awards were announced. With just over 250 of the industry's finest present, the most innovative and successful projects, companies and individuals in the tunnelling industry were rewarded and celebrated.

The awards were hosted by NCE Editor Antony Oliver and included a keynote speech by Mr C K Hon, JP, Director of Civil Engineering & Development for the HKSAR Government in front of an audience of the key players and the ones to watch in the global industry. With the number and calibre of entries far exceeding our judges' expectations, competition was fierce. You can see the full list of deserving winners here.

Antony Oliver, Editor of NCE said of the awards:
"The International Tunnelling Awards are designed to recognise the scale of the contribution that the tunnelling sector plays in the delivery of modern infrastructure not just in the UK - but across the world... Taking this exciting event to Hong Kong has highlighted the global nature of this industry, and showcased to an international audience, the truly outstanding and innovative achievements this industry boasts. This year's project winners are all outstanding examples of how technical expertise and innovation can combine to deliver exciting, sustainable and hugely valuable infrastructure"

Big winners on the night included Mott MacDonald who took home Tunnel Design Firm of the Year and Jay Dee Coluccio Taisei & Jay Dee Coluccio JVs who were named Tunnelling Contractor of the Year. Young Tunneller of the Year was awarded to Lázaro Romero Zamora,Ingenieros Civiles Asociados and Terry Hulme the father of tunnelling in Singapore, took the accolade Lifetime Achievement. The mighty "Bamtonnelstroy" project snapped up Major Tunnelling Project of the Year
