Welcome to the home of the Atheists and Freethinkers of Denver! We are an eclectic
group of secularists, rationalists, humanists, skeptics, agnostics, and--yes--atheists. We are all united in one thing--freethought.
What is a freethinker? A freethinker
is someone who analyzes information and arrives at conclusions without being restrained by tradition, authority, popular opinion,
prejudice, or emotion. A freethinker is someone who goes where the facts take him or her--but no further.
What is atheism?
Atheism is the absence of belief in any god(s). Atheism is not "the belief" that
there is no such thing as god(s), any more than rejecting Santa Claus is "the belief" that there is no such thing as Santa.
Atheism is the lack of a belief, and lacking a belief is not a belief. Nor is lacking a spouse a kind of marriage
but the absence of marriage. Nor is not-playing-baseball a sport.
Atheism is thus not a belief and certainly not a belief-system. And atheism is of
course not a religion but the absence of a particular kind of religion--theism.
What is an atheist? An atheist is someone who has no belief in any god or gods. An atheist does not claim to know for certain
or be able to prove that there are no gods. No one knows anything about any god(s), and atheists have no burden of proof
at all, since they don't "believe" anything--they doubt something!
What is agnosticism? Agnosticism
is not a position or opinion but rather a method. It is not an alternative to atheism and theism. An agnostic
is someone who does not claim to have knowledge unless he or she can demonstrate the evidence and logic for such a claim.
To say it another way, an agnostic only claims to have knowledge if he or she can give the grounds or reasons for such knowledge.
In this sense, we are all agnostics when it comes to religion and god(s), since no one has any evidence of them. The
question is: If you have no knowledge of a thing, why would you believe in it anyhow? |

Site Purpose and Group Mission The purpose of this site and the group that inhabits it is to increase knowledge of and community in our common
interests in freethought and atheism. We aim as much as possible to coordinate and integrate existing groups that share our
interests and goals. We hope to add new list members so we will be able to spread our message. We also want to have fun while
we are together and working on projects. By developing relationships and friendships, the group and the individuals in it
will become even stronger. Our mission is to support and inform each other to become more comfortable, confident, and articulate
atheists and freethinkers. We strive to make a difference by educating ourselves, reaching out to other individuals
and organizations who think like we do, and taking our message to the public in issues of intellectual and social importance.
