About the Trust > Who we are
spacer
The National Trust for Scotland is a conservation charity. We are independent of Government and we are Scotland’s largest membership organisation – 308,000 and growing.

2011 is our 80th Anniversary. We were established in 1931 in order to protect and promote Scotland's natural and cultural heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.

As a charity, we depend on donations, legacies, grants and membership subscriptions so that we can act as guardian of Scotland’s magnificent heritage of architectural, scenic and historic treasures.
