Join us to celebrate the beauty, power, and impact of taiko.

spacer Every year we gather together to benefit Portland Taiko's programs that, through artistic innovation and excellence in taiko, affirm Asian-American pride, inspire audiences, build community, and educate about our culture and heritage. This year we invite you to join us to eat, drink, and enjoy the sounds and sights of taiko in the lush Lan Su Chinese Garden in downtown Portland.

At the sixth annual benefit event, Taiko by Starlight: A Benefit at the Garden, we are recognizing the traditions of the Tanabata festival by meeting together in a night of celebration and community.

Tanabata is the Japanese star festival held at night to celebrate the meeting of Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair). According to legends, the Amanogawa (Milky Way), the river of stars that crosses the sky, separates these two lovers. They are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. The colorful Tanabata festivals are held in early July and August.

Surrounded by the beauty of Portland's own Lan Su Chinese Garden, our Taiko by Starlight: A Benefit at the Garden guests will enjoy delicious food, a live private taiko show, a silent auction, and a fundraiser favorite, Mystery Origami, plus new this year is our raffle - Pay $100 for your ticket and you will be entered to win an iPad2!
