Characters

Tristan—A young orphan boy raised by monks at St. Alban’s Abbey. He was left on the steps of the Abbey when he was a few days old. A mysterious note and blue woolen blanket are all he possesses of his life before the Abbey.

Brother Tuck—A Cistercian Monk who helps raise Tristan at St. Alban’s. He is deaf and mute but is able to communicate and understand complicated issues.

The Abbot—He is in charge of the Abbey. He is stern but fair minded and Tristan is a little afraid of him.

Brother Rupert—Another Monk at St. Alban’s. He gives Tristan guidance and has served as his principal teacher.

Sir Thomas Leux—A Templar Knight who stops at St. Alban’s to rest for the night with the rest of his regimento. He asks Tristan to join him as his squire and becomes his mentor.

Sir Hugh Monfort—He is Sir Thomas’ commanding officer and Marshal of the Regimento. He takes an instant dislike to Tristan.

Sir Basil—Another Templar Knight that Tristan meets at the Dover Commandery. He is Thomas Leux’s best friend.

Quincy—He serves as squire to Sir Basil and becomes Tristan’s friend.

Richard the Lionheart—The King of England and Christian Commander during the Third Crusade. A brilliant military man, he has little interest in the affairs of the crown.

John Little—A village blacksmith in Dover who makes Tristan his first sword. He is a giant man and is called “Little John” by those who know him.

Robard Hode—A few years older than Tristan he is a member of the King’s Archers. He rescues Tristan from bandits in Outremer when he is on his way home to Sherwood Forest.

Maryam—A young woman member of the Al Hashshashin warrior cult. She leads a surprise attack on Tristan and Robard but later befriends them.

Marshall Curesco—The Marshal of the Templar Regimento in Tyre.
