Calling Collect? How Cook County Might Be Cashing In On Prison Calls

WBEZ's Rob Wildeboer has been reporting on the exorbitant collect call rates that families or friends of detainees have to pay to talk. A fifteen minute call costs you $14.99, paid to Securus Technologies. Cook County has a contract with the company, collecting 57% of the profits, which add up to $4 million in the past 4 years.
