Silverware

Alex Ramsay designs and makes an award winning range of contemporary silverware, specialising in combining silver with textured, hand blown glass. The collection includes domestic pieces such as bowls, jugs, candelabra, table centerpieces and also interior, architectural pieces. These unique pieces are made to commission for private and public collectors, and exhibited at select galleries in the UK and abroad.

The Nitrate Negative Series is inspired by silver nitrate photography, and explores ideas of positive and negative, reflection and shadow through the characteristic combination of silver and glass. Double skinned silver objects are hand pierced to create intricate, layered and cut away patterns that explore and reference those in the glass. Two objects become a unique pair, balancing and reflecting each other.

Alex’s work has been celebrated by a number of prestigious awards and commissions in 2009-10. These include the acquisition of 2 bowls by The Goldsmiths’ Company Modern Silver Collection, and the presentation of an award from The Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen. In 2008 Alex was featured in an Olympic film about creative London businesses, and the 2012 organisers presented one of her bowls to the Mayor of Haidien Province at the Beijing Games.
