Firing cheeseballs at the dog

Star of We Are Klang and The Inbetweeners Greg Davies has toured the country this year performing his one man show “Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog” which is now available on DVD just in time for Christmas.

One instantly likeable feature of Greg Davies as a comedian is that he shows his enjoyment of his craft in his physical presence on stage. This may be because of Greg’s previous life as a school teacher one which he has admitted left him depressed. The love for the job is refreshing and certainly adds to the humour and feel of the show.

Unlike several of the current comedy crop which have virtually been born straight into comedy Greg has lived a life before stand up and that allows him to recount several tales from his previous life as a teacher.

Greg recounts several excellent anecdotes from his days as a teacher and he has an excellent way of characterising each child in his stories. The theme of the show is a walk through Greg’s life with several stop off points for hilarious family stories and events in his life. Particularly stories pertaining his father are the strongest winners with his audience.

Greg also interacts well with his audience around shared memories of childhood nicknames a topic which turns out to be very funny both the pre-prepared ones from Greg and the improvised nicknames dished out by an excellent audience.

Another strong aspect of the show is how Greg Davies changes the pace and mood of the themes throughout, he will go from a ridiculous school ground incident to a very heartfelt tale of family life always ending both with strong punch lines.

Overall this is an excellent first DVD from Greg who now has a strong body of work with the much underrated We Are Klang and his various appearances on a host of comedy panel shows. If you have enjoyed Greg before you will certainly enjoy his Debut solo DVD and if you have missed him up to this point now is the time to get your hands on Greg at his best on stage.
