Morgan State – 7500 ‘Bears’ sport the blue and orange at this school that was first established in 1867.  A traditionally black public school, Morgan State opted out of becoming a part of the University of Maryland system.

Loyola University Maryland – 6,000 ‘Greyhounds’ race around the Loyola campus, and the school itself dates to pre-Civil War days, founded in 1852. Authors Tom Clancy and Mark Bowden graduated from Loyola. The school’s motto is “Strong Truths Well Lived”.

Coppin State – 1900 was the year Coppin State was established, and there are 4,000 Eagles in attendance today. The urban campus has provided educational opportunities for many economically challenged scholars. “Nurturing Potential – Transforming Lives” is the school motto.

Baltimore City College – Located in “the Castle on the Hill”, this public college prep school is one of the top academic institutions in America. There are 1,350 Knights, and among the notable alumni is John Archibald Wheeler, the theoretical physicist who coined the term “black hole”.

BSA – The Baltimore School for the Arts is a small (under 400 students) public school that was established in 1979. BSA is noted for its concentrations in classical music, theater, dance, theater production and visual art.

IND – The Institute of Notre Dame is an all-girls Roman Catholic school of 350 students. The Penguins were first spotted in 1847, and today they are among the finest students in Baltimore. Nancy Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House, was a 1958 graduate.

Heritage – Heritage is a small school, with an enrollment of 800 students. “Preserving the past as we prepare for the future” is the motto of the Black Knights.

Towson – The “Generals” hail from the Baltimore suburbs, and there are now more than 1400 Generals in attendance each year. Founded in 1873, Towson counts Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps among the alumni.
