SPORTS MEDICINE

Our Department offers an ACGME Accredited Sports Medicine Fellowship affiliated with the Athletic Department of the University of Nevada Las Vegas and the Bone & Joint Institute of Southern Nevada. This primary care Sports Medicine experience seeks to train individuals balanced in the knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries, connective tissues disorders, exercise physiology and medical conditions specific to athletes. Successful applicants must qualify for Board Certification in Family Medicine and licensure in the state of Nevada. Fellowship Applicants must submit a letter of interest, medical school transcripts, copies of USMLE scores, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine application form located at www.amssm.org and the names of three individuals qualified to write letters of recommendation on their behalf to be considered for the fellowship. OBSTETRICS

Our Department offers an intense 12 month Obstetrics fellowship for successful graduates of accredited Family Medicine residency programs. This yearlong experience at University Medical Center provides motivated individuals the skills necessary to deliver advanced maternal/child care including prenatal ultrasound, medical complications of pregnancy, antepartum assessment and operative obstetrics. This experience is conducted in conjunction with the Department of OB/GYN at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Successful applicants must qualify for Board Certification in Family Medicine and licensure in the state of Nevada. Fellowship director is Elissa J. Palmer, MD. Applicants must submit a letter of interest, medical school transcripts, copies of USMLE scores and the names of three individuals qualified to write letters of recommendation on their behalf to be considered for the fellowship. A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s residency Program Director is also required. All application materials must be received no later than January 15th. URGENT CARE

This 12 month fellowship is a collaboration among the University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine in Las Vegas, the University Medical Center, and the Urgent Care Association of America (UCAOA). It is offered to graduates of an accredited Family Medicine residency program, who wish to further their knowledge base and enhance their procedural skills in the fast growing specialty of Urgent Care Medicine.  This is the first fellowship of its kind to focus on the advanced training necessary for a successful career in Urgent Care.  This is a 12 month fellowship, beginning July 1 (later start dates accommodated) of each year carrying salary of a PGY4 resident and benefits provided by University of Nevada School of Medicine.  There is one fellow participating in the current academic year and the fellow is available to discuss the program with residents.

The fellowship combines clinical rotations and didactic sessions. The focus of the fellowship will be in the management of acute illness and injury in the Urgent Care setting.  Emphasis will be placed on Orthopedics, Radiology, Trauma Care, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Adult and Pediatric Emergencies and Disposition Management.  There will be a longitudinal component at the Department of Family Medicine - Family Medicine Center and in one of our University Medical Center Quick Care centers, as well as rotations through other pertinent specialties.  There will also be a didactic component and opportunities for teaching at the Family Medicine Center. Employment Assistance will be provided at the end of the fellowship through UCAOA.

Supervision for the program will be provided by the clinical staff of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University Medical Center Quick Care physicians, and community physicians and under the direction of the fellowship director, Dr. Aron Rogers, in collaboration with Dr. Elissa J. Palmer, the Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Medicine in Las Vegas, Nevada.
