LCRA recognized for financial transparency |
LCRA for the third consecutive year has received a gold certification from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for fulfilling the highest level of financial transparency. LCRA is the first river authority to achieve this level of recognition for three years as part of the Texas Transparency Check-Up Program sponsored by state Comptroller Susan Combs. Extreme drought remains despite recent rain |
|
The recent heavy rain brought some much-needed relief to the area, but there is still no clear end in sight to the severe drought gripping Central Texas. Totals of about 1-3 inches of rain fell on the Colorado River basin between Feb. 17 and 18 offering some temporary relief and increasing the storage of lakes Travis and Buchanan by about 60,000 acre-feet. LCRA to work with state to enforce lake water use regulations |
LCRA will begin reporting residents who pump water from the Highland Lakes without a contract to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, which can levy fines for the illegal pumping.
“Everyone needs to play by the same rules when it comes to the precious, shared and limited resource of water from the Highland Lakes,” LCRA General Manager Becky Motal said. “We’ve been asking and encouraging people to obtain the required contracts for a long time. Now it’s time to step up enforcement.”
Highland Lakes residents whose intakes cannot reach the lake because of the drought do not need to obtain a domestic use contract until they can draw water from the lake. Read the news release.
