Participatory Action Research with Design Studio

Why Design Studio? In the EDE Thailand 2008/9, the Thai EDE teaching and organizing team had started their first design studio at the fifth week of their course. The Idea was to have an extra week for the student to experience and practice integrated design in the real sites.

Forming Community Through EDE

spacer Tuwa The Laughing Fish is an eco-homestead, living and learning center and green bed and breakfast inn nestled right in the middle of the vast rice fields of the small farming town of Cabiao in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. It is on the wings of growth and has the potential to evolve into a forming ecological community. What makes it unique is that it was founded and created by two Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) alumni in the persons of John Vermeulen and this author, Penelope Reyes --- all in a short span of two years.

Ecovillage Design Education at Konohana Family, Japan

spacer The third Japan EDE will be taking place at the foothills of Mount Fuji, in the context of the experience of Konohana Family. The Konohana Family lives in right livelihood, practises small scale economies, uses natural materials for building systems and organic farming with high self-sufficiency ratio. The community lives inner & outer peace, strives towards leadership, facilitation and non violent conflict resolution.
