Thanks to your support in 2011 Jean is now feeding her family all year round and joining her community to build a future free from hunger and poverty...

This is a photo of Jean from Northern Malawi. Before her involvement with our project she did not have enough food to feed her family all year round. But with support from Find Your Feet this year her community identified fish farming as a livelihood opportunity. They formed a group and charged each member 500MKW (£1.94) to join. After they had built the pond this money was used to stock it with fish. Not only do the group farm fish but they also use the nutrient-rich water from the pond as a form of irrigation for their crops. This has allowed the group to earn 5,000MKW (£19.37) from the sale of vegetables and in September, the group also sold 24kg of fish, netting them 12,000MKW (£46.48).

“This group initiative is greatly benefitting my individual family. Before my family lacked food and I found breakfast a particular challenge. Now I have money to buy food and most days we eat three meals a day. We would like to set up a shop to sell our produce and I hope that I can continue to ensure a healthy future for my family”
