a new level of insanity

spacer >>  It seems that the leggings-mad fashion industry has upped the ante now that your run-of-the-mill black leggings are everywhere to be seen.  Remember those crazy cool but insanely unwearable robo-leggings that Nicolas Ghesquiere showed on the Balenciaga S/S 2007 runway?  The ones that I can't even imagine how the models put on except to be stitched into?  They are being made only at request (surprise), with a price point of... over $100,000.  I guess that's an easy way to keep them exclusive to fashion editorials and museums.

Someone who was at the Balenciaga showroom told me the leggings were actually made out of cashmere with the metal plating stitched on piece by piece....so actually quite soft!

Ah, I had heard that the chain-link dresses were also made of cloth, but didn't know about the leggings. The handstitching piece-by-piece explains the price though!

If you're dying for gold/silver leggings, check out American Apparel's lame offerings. Not my personal thing, but then I'm known for not being leggings's biggest fan...

Well, I certainly wouldn't want a pair unless I wanted to remember forever this Balenciaga collection which wouldn't be a bad idea because it was a pretty cool futuristic collection, but... I don't have that kind of money. Oh no, I do not.

oh, and their resort wear collection had a more wearable pair of ridiculous gold pants that someone can probably squeeze into comfortable. irina wore them and they looked gorgeous on her. so, i suppose, if you absolutely loved the pants, but wanted a watered down version of them, those might be fitting.

well at least they are not requesting to have all the outfits shot as one complete look.

Obviously what you see on the runway is what nobody can afford to wear, but leggings in black and putty by C&C California are comfy, stylish and affordable and look great with tunic tops for Fall. You can snatch em up at www.lukablu.com in Nov
