First gig in over two years!
We'll be playing our first gig in a long time on March 1st at the Green Room, Sheffield. We're supporting seal of quality and John Makay: a couple of French bands coming to the UK on tour soon. We'll be playing some of our old favourites, including a couple of VGM covers, and we have a new mystery member to unveil as well. Check out the Facebook event page for more info.
Chiptune Alliance 2009 and a brand new original track
The Sheffield date of the Chiptune Alliance tour 2009 was a massive success again. Thanks to everyone who came down and danced to the great 8-bit music on offer that night. Our good friend Mo took some pictures of the show, and you can see them on his Flickr account.
Spheres of Chaos also contributed a brand new, original track to the recent A Pterodactyl Squad Compilation release. This track was originally written for a separate RPG-themed compilation which is yet to be released, but you can get it first for free over at Pterodactyl Squad. The compilation features the likes of Spamtron, Temp Sound Solutions, arcadecoma. and Lawrence Power, so is definitely one to check out.
Sega Genesis Tribute compilation and Joe drums on a Spamtron track
OK, so this update is pretty late coming, but better late than never!
Spheres of Chaos had their two Sonic the Hedgehog tracks featured on Game Music 4 All's Sega Genesis Tribute album. You can download our covers of Spring Yard Zone from StH1 and Chemical Plant Zone from StH2 along with the rest of the release over at gamemusic4all.com/genesis. Other artists on the comp include Videogame Orchestra, NESMETAL and Temp Sound Solutions. We had so much fun recording these Sonic covers that you can probably look out for some more in the future...
Also, Joe did some live drumming on a chiptune track - Avant Guardian by Spamtron, which was recently released as a bonus track on Spamtron's Triple Screen album. You can check that out over at Pterodactyl Squad.
New Spheres of Chaos videos
The Gamewave Podcast just posted video footage from the Sheffield date of the Chiptune Alliance Tour 2008, featuring Spheres of Chaos, syphus, Firebrand Boy, Random and Sabrepulse. Subscribe to the feed, or go to this page for direct links.
We've also uploaded some new videos to YouTube from the same show. Check out our YouTube page for that.
And stay tuned for some nice new material to drop on a couple of compilations that are soon to be released...

Welcome to World 2 and Radio Free Hipster
Game Music 4 All have just released Welcome to World 2, a compilation album celebrating their 2nd year anniversary. It features our version of the Tetris theme, Korobeiniki, as well as loads of other great artists like The Megas, Entertainment System and Player Two.
Also, Z played Spheres of Chaos again on his podcast, Radio Free Hipster. He closed Ep. 49 with Skyward - awesome!
Welcome to the new site!
We recently had a bit of a redesign over here at spheresofchaos.co.uk, so everything's now condensed down into one page - how convenient!
And using the video box down there you can access our YouTube profile where we just recently uploaded a short video of us recording some Sonic the Hedgehog covers for Game Music 4 All's upcoming Sega Mega Drive compilation. Check out the video and be on the lookout for that comp in the coming months.
Check out Episode 43 of the Gamewave Podcast too, recorded by band members Joe Heffer and Joe Allen using a Talkboy!
Here Comes a New Challenger and Radio Free Hipster
Spheres of Chaos recently took part in the Here Comes a New Challenger project, an awesome compilation put together by Game Music 4 All. The idea was to pair lots of musicians/bands together to make music, and we worked with ProjektZero to create the track Knight in Rusted Armor. It's something a bit different from us, but very cool nonetheless, so head on over to the site and check it out. Take a look at the awesome artwork too and see if you can spot us on there.
We were also recently featured on Episode 43 of geek music podcast Radio Free Hipster hosted by Z. Pretty cool.
Stratospheria is here!
Finally, our new EP is available over at the Pterodactyl Squad netlabel.
"Embark on a new quest in Stratospheria, the second release from video game rock band Spheres of Chaos. Set off at the breakneck speed of Twilight To Midnight, before moving into the brooding saga of The Citadel; then marvel at the power of the Megafauna, before voyaging upward in Skyward. Spanning styles and sentiments, a journey of adventure, imagination and story-telling awaits."
Pterodactyl Squad
Pterodactyl Squad, the new netlabel headed up by Joe (Allen) has just launched, with Spheres of Chaos contributing a brand new track to the Gamewave Podcast Compilation Vol. 2. Look out for the release of our EP on this label sometime fairly soon too.
New EP
The finishing touches are being made to our next EP and you can expect it to be released sometime fairly soon, probably in around a month, of course for free. We're really happy with how it turned out, so stay tuned!
Self-titled album mastering and new EP update
We've just had our self-titled album remastered by Player Two from Betamod and it sounds even better than before. If you don't have it already or would like the new tracks then go to the Our Music page.
Also, we're just finishing up on our new 5-track EP, so look out for it soon on a netlabel near you!
Gamewave Megacast
Spheres of Chaos had our song Zero played on the Gamewave Megacast podcast, hosted by Joe and Mike of Spheres of Chaos and the Gamewave Podcast and Tim and Tony of Year 200X and the VGM Megacast. The show also features music from NESmetal, The Advantage, Year 200X, Anamanaguchi, Spacepony, Machinae Supremacy, Ozma, Chromelodeon and Metroid Metal. Check it out at the VGM Megacast site or Betamod Radio.
Recording
We've just started the recording of our next release. There should be five songs in all, four originals and one cover, and it's likely to be released through Mega Twerp sometime before the end of the summer.
Shows!
We have three shows lined up in the South Yorkshire area over the next few weeks. It'd be especially cool if you came down to our show on June 1st, as it'll be our last for quite a while. Check out the Live Shows page for more information.
Mega Twerp relaunch!
Spheres of Chaos netlabel, Mega Twerp, has just undergone a re-design and relaunch. The site is home to releases by other awesome artists such as Disastertron, lutin, Phlogiston and Electro Static Discharge. Go see what all the fuss is about, and look forward to more video game style releases.

Anamanaguchi show
SoC played a totally rocking show with Elfonso, denytheaccident and Anamanaguchi on 11th March. The show was part of Anamanaguchi's short lived UK tour, and we hope to see them back over here again sometime soon. For pictures of the show go to this directory - thanks to Gill, Kiran and Lydia. If you have any pictures/video from the event then please send to the usual email address.
Plans
Just a quick update on Spheres of Chaos' plans for the short term future:
We hope to have two releases done in around the next six months. One will feature some new material and the other will involve chiptunes... Also, we're gearing up for the Sheffield show of Anamanaguchi's UK tour, which should be pretty immense, and from now on we hope to start playing more shows than we have been doing.
Mike's new animation!
Mike has made a new stop-frame animation and even though it doesn't technically involve Spheres of Chaos, it features some of his own compositions in the background music.
To see the animation, click here.
Game Music 4 All
One of our favourite websites, Game Music 4 All, has just had a redesign - check it out. The site is dedicated to bringing you all the news that matters from video game bands and artists around the world. You can also read an interview we did with the site a while back.
Spheres of Chaos featured on compilation
Spheres of Chaos have contributed a track to the Gamewave Podcast Compilation Vol. 1. The release has been made through Betamod and, as always, all the tracks are available for free. There's a nice selection of VGM inspired tracks from Spamtron, disasterPEACE, Coleco Music, Phlogiston, Player Two, Mr. Spastic, NESmetal, lutin and Anamanaguchi - download it here.
Spheres of Chaos on Youtube!
I've just finished uploading videos of a whole bunch of live songs performed at our gig on 19th October 2006 at the Boardwalk, Sheffield.
To see the videos, click here.
Stuff
So, our web monkey fixed the site up after it got burnt down and everything should be working properly now.
Feedback from the album seems to be pretty decent so far, and if you still haven't heard it for yourself follow the instructions on the music page.
We're currently writing some new tracks and it's going pretty well. Expect some shows in the local area towards the beginning of 2007.
Boardwalk Gig
We played at the Boardwalk, Sheffield. The place was surprisingly packed, even though it was a Thursday night.
Other local bands in the lineup were Reality Check, The Flaming Pitchforks and Analog Sun.
Debut Album Released
Our brand new, 10-track instru-metal CD is available for download at MegaTwerp.
We have made a limited run of beautifully crafted CD albums, with full colour cover art and disc, which can be ordered from the music page.
Demo Recording
After much blood, sweat and tears and many blank CDs our demo of four tracks is finally finished. You can listen to the results here, through our MySpace page. Some of the tracks don't sound as originally intended but I'm pleased with the result overall. We've all learnt a lot about recording over the last few days and we've had a lot of help from others, especially regarding equipment. Check the photos page for pictures of us in action. Leave us some feedback too. Thanks.
