A webcomic from Velvet Rasputin about a priest turned hardened criminal.

FAQ

When and where does Dissident Priest take place?

Between the late seventies and mid-eighties in Moscow, Russia and surrounding rural areas.

Do you have a print version of Dissident Priest available?

We did and we will.  Unfortunately, the two issues of the comic with the original art are out of print and will not be reprinted.  We are hoping to have a print version with the new art ready by the fall of 2012.

Do you have a list of citations, references or resources for your Dissident Priest research?

Right here.

What with the tattoo thing?

Before the collapse of the Soviet Union, tattoos were used by Russian prisoners as both a form of punishment and communication.

What motivates you to tell this story?

A general disgust with corrupt governments trying to control people’s lives and ineffective prisons that create better criminals.

When does Dissident Priest update?

Every Tuesday, but more often if we reach $250 in combined donations at any given time. Blog posts and Extras update irregularly.  To avoid missing a single update, be sure to sign-up for the Dissident Priest update mailing list or follow our feed on your favorite RSS reader.

Alternatively, you may mail a check or money order payable to VAS Littlecrow, PO Box 202, Rice, MN 56367. Be sure to write “Dissident Priest” on the “memo” area of the check or, send a note stating that you want the money to be used for Rasputin Barxotka.

Dissident Priest family-friendly?

Absolutely not. It has a lot of NSFW moments and it is aimed towards a mature audience. Think of it as an R-rated movie in webcomic form.

What inspired the look for your art?

Originally, Dissident Priest was a spin-off of Rasputin Barxotka. The aesthetic drew inspiration from manga and Russian neo-Primitive folk paintings. I use a brush pen combined with digital media to achieve the comic’s unique appearance.  I decided to have the artwork completely redrawn in a more mainstream pulp style, because the original look never felt right for this specific story.  For further information on the style change, please refer to the following blog entry.

How do you come up with story ideas?

I base a lot of the story on my own life mashed up with historical documents and the news.  For character development, I tend to use my dreams or I will harness my mild schizophrenia to “channel” my characters.

There’s so much going on in Dissident Priest. Do you have a wiki?
