Postmortem
The election is over. Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star and Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch dissect the election results in Missouri with Missourinet Managing Editor Brent Martin in this final Campaign Watch of the 2008 campaign.

The politicking ends and the voting begins
On Tuesday Missourians decide who they want as president, governor, a host of other candidates as well as issues. Brent Martin reviews the election with veteran political reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star.

Congressional races heating up
Missouri has two hotly contested Congressional races this year, including one that is an open seat. Veteran political reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star discuss with Brent Martin the races in the 6th and 9th Congressional Districts.

Is this the Dem’s year? – 10/20/08
Missouri Democrats insist this is the year that they take back control of the Missouri House, which they lost to Republicans in the 2002 mid-term elections. Veteran reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star tell Brent Martin that while Democrats might pick up a few seats in the 163-seat chamber, it’s doubtful this is the year they return to power.

Just two incumbents on statewide ballot – 8/13/08
There are only two incumbent statewide officeholders on the ballot this November. Brent Martin talks with political reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star about whether Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, a Republican, and Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, a Democrat, face a real challenge to re-election and what their political futures might be.

Is Missouri still the nation’s bellwether? 10/6/08
Missouri took the national political stage with the vice presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis. Brent Martin talks with veteran political reporters Jo Mannies with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star about the debate and whether Missouri remains not only a battleground state, but a political bellwether for the nation as a whole.

Palin celebrity shines brighter spotlight on VP debate – 9/29/08
Presidential candidates Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain have debated at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Now, the vice presidential candidates take center stage. St. Louis Post-Dispatch political reporter Jo Mannies and Kansas City Star political reporter Steve Kraske tell Brent Martin this vice presidential debate has become more important than those in the past, because of the celebrity status achieved by McCain running mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her showdown with Obama running mate Delaware Senator Joe Biden.

What’s up with down-ballot races in Missouri? – 9/22/08
Barack Obama versus John McCain. Jay Nixon versus Kenny Hulshof. Everyone seems to be focusing on the presidential race and, to a lesser extent, the gubernatorial race, but what about the down-ballot races? Jo Mannies with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske with the Kansas City Star tell Brent Martin that there are some intriguing races down-ballot for voters to consider.

Blunt decision not to run – 9/15/08
Governor Blunt shocked Missouri’s political world when, on January 22nd, he announced he would not run for re-election. What political observers had assumed would be a gubernatorial race pitting incumbent Republican Matt Blunt against Democrat Jay Nixon, the state Attorney General, veered into uncertain territory. Republicans eventually nominated Congressman Kenny Hulshof as their candidate after a bruising primary against Treasurer Sarah Steelman. Missourinet Managing Editor Brent Martin talks about the Blunt announcement and its impact on the Nixon-Hulshof race with veteran reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star.

Conventions over. Now what? 9/8/08
Democrats gathered in Denver. Republicans gathered in St. Paul. Now that both political parties have held their national conventions, there is less than 60 days left in this general election. Brent Martin talks with veteran political reporters Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City about where the campaigns go from here and what pressure a compressed timeframe has on them.

What’s the GOP game plan? 9/1/08
The Republican National Convention gets underway today (September 1, 2008) in Saint Paul, Minnesota – just days after the Democratic Party wrapped up its convention in Denver. And Republicans from Missouri and throughout the country will spend the next four days presenting GOP presidential candidate John McCain and his running mate to the country.

In this segment of Campaign Watch, Joe Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star talk to Missourinet’s Steve Walsh about the Republican game plan – whether that plan is to accentuate the positives of McCain, stress the negatives of Democratic candidate Barack Obama, or perhaps a bit of both. They also discuss what McCain must do to convince Missouri voters he is the man they should vote for in November.

Do conventions still matter? 8/25/08
Democrats gather in Denver this week for their national convention. Veteran political reporters Jo Mannies with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske with the Kansas City Star tell Brent Martin conventions might not be as significant as they once were, but this week is crucial for Barack Obama as the presidential candidate seeks to bring in disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters, unite the party and re-gain his momentum in the presidential race against Republican John McCain.

Missouri’s role in 2008? 8/18/08
Presidential candidates Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain have already shown considerable interest in Missouri, both paying the state several visits. Just how important will Missouri be in the presidential sweepstakes? Brent Martin explores that question with two of Missouri’s top political reporters: Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske with the Kansas City Star.

What are Missouri voters saying with their ballots? 8/11/089
Missouri voters faced many decisions during the August 5th Primary, including who Republicans wanted to nominate for governor. Congressman Kenny Hulshof will attempt to keep the governor’s office in the hands of Republicans, facing a tough contest against the well-funded campaign of Democrat Jay Nixon. Two of Missouri’s top political reporters, Jo Mannies of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Steve Kraske of the Kansas City Star, join Brent Martin to discuss what voters might have stated by the ballots they cast.
