Missouri Democrats insist this is the year that they take back control of the Missouri House, which they lost to Republicans in the 2002 mid-term elections. Governor Blunt shocked Missouri’s political world when, on January 22nd, he announced he would not run for re-election. What political observers had assumed would be a gubernatorial race pitting incumbent Republican Matt Blunt against Democrat Jay Nixon, the state Attorney General, veered into uncertain territory. Republicans eventually nominated Congressman Kenny Hulshof as their candidate after a bruising primary against Treasurer Sarah Steelman.
