Our Story

“The greatest achievements were first and for a time dreams.

The oak sleeps in the acorn.” — James Allen

While living in Orange County, California, we had dreamt of owning a central coast vineyard and crafting exceptional wines that exemplify the rich and unique terrior of the appellation. As long time fans of Paso Robles wines and winemakers, we were frequent visitors to this well known region. Each trip was an adventure and only whet our appetite for permanence in Paso Robles, an area that offered culture, warmth and diversity. We wanted a healthy place to raise our toddler, Spencer, and welcome our newborn, Alec.

Our dream became a reality in 2006 when we discovered and purchased Emboscada Ranch located high above the Highway 46 West in historical El Paso de Robles (the passage of the oaks). Planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, this stunning property gave us a desirable location, top notch vines, and a wonderful place to make our home. *

spacer We renamed the ranch Sharp’s Hill Vineyards after Rob Sharp and Pamela (Hill) Sharp, making it a family vineyard. The four grape leaves on our label represent our four family members, keeping “family” close at heart and establishing new and lasting tradition. In addition to our hilltop location we have obtained several acres of superb vines in west-side Paso Robles to include in our “estate grown” selection. Our emphasis is placed on the sumptuousness of the Bordeaux varietals.

Since moving to Paso Robles, we have made friends with many talented people in the wine industry. Sharing high standards of grape growing and winemaking practices, we are proud to among such a dedicated neighborhood that is gaining notoriety worldwide.

* The West side of Paso Robles is especially noteworthy donning the most desirable calcareous soil for growing wine grapes. Additionally we are situated in the Templeton Gap, and area which allows for hotter days and cool maritime influences in the evenings and early mornings, an average daily 40° temperature change.
