spacer WHAT IS sandbag?
Sandbag is a not-for-profit campaign group dedicated to fighting climate change and promoting a low-carbon future.
We believe a big part of the answer lies in the cap and trade of greenhouse gas emissions and we campaign to make sure that existing and planned carbon markets live up to their potential. We shine a light on what's really going on, what's working well, and what needs to be improved. Through changes in these policies literally billions of tonnes can be prevented from entering the atmosphere - our analysis and lobbying of governments helps ensure this is what happens.
Join us in calling for tighter caps on emissions and/or take direct action to cancel carbon permits now.

See how emissions trading works
Legal caps on emissions are in place across Europe. Use our maps to find out who is capped, how many emissions permits they have been given and where they are sourcing their offsets from. Nearly three quarters of installations now have more permits than they need.
This is why we're campaigning for caps to be tightened and for offsetting reforms.

UK NGO coalition urges Ed Davey to support EU climate milestones
posted by Damien on 8th Mar 2012

spacer Today, Sandbag and NGOs in the Stop Climate Chaos coalition sent a joint letter to the new UK Energy and Climate Secretary, Ed Davey, ahead of his participation in the EU Environmnent Council this Friday.

The letter encourages Davey to support milestones to reduce Europe's emissions by 40% in 2030, 60% in 2040 and 80% in 2050 compared with 2050 levels against 1990 levels. It also asks him to promote measures to achive a 25% domestic target in 2020, including withdrawing permits from the EU ETS, and supporting the Energy Efficiency Directive as amended by the European Parliament's Industry Committee.

A copy of the letter can be found here: SCC Env Council letter to Ed Davey

It just seems to be a campaign that gets right in there with how big companies work, beating them at their own game, rather than standing by spouting platitudes, wringing hands and doing nothing. Keep up the good work!spacer

Here at last is a way to really keep carbon out of the atmosphere - by buying pollution credits on the European market and destroying them. I wholeheartedly support this initiative, and the vital linked campaign to get the European carbon cap tightened up.spacer
