UK NGO coalition urges Ed Davey to support EU climate milestones
posted by Damien on 8th Mar 2012
Today, Sandbag and NGOs in the Stop Climate Chaos coalition sent a joint letter to the new UK Energy and Climate Secretary, Ed Davey, ahead of his participation in the EU Environmnent Council this Friday.
The letter encourages Davey to support milestones to reduce Europe's emissions by 40% in 2030, 60% in 2040 and 80% in 2050 compared with 2050 levels against 1990 levels. It also asks him to promote measures to achive a 25% domestic target in 2020, including withdrawing permits from the EU ETS, and supporting the Energy Efficiency Directive as amended by the European Parliament's Industry Committee.
