Welcome to Swan Tower. I'm Marie Brennan, fantasy author and ex-academic. Here you can find not only the usual information on my books and short stories, but also various and sundry essays, musings, rants, screeds, and bits of unsolicited advice. News and Site Updates

(2/1/12) Novelette sale! "False Colors,", set in Napoleonic-era England, will be appearing in Wilful Impropriety: 13 Tales of Scoiety and Scandal.

(1/30/12) Would you like to receive a letter from a member of the Onyx Court? I'm particpating in Mary Robinette Kowal's Month of Letters challenge for the month of February; details here.

(1/4/12) Work has kept me a bit quiet around here, but I got news today that A Star Shall Fall will be getting a mass-market release in October of this year.

(9/7/11) I'm a bit belated in posting this -- but With Fate Conspire is on the shelves! Check out the novel's page for "special features," ordering links, and more.

(6/22/11) "Remembering Light" will be reprinted in The Best of Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Year Two.

(6/21/11) Seventy days until the publication of With Fate Conspire, and I've posted my research bibliography and acknowledgements.

(6/10/11) As we count down toward the publication of With Fate Conspire, I've begun posting goodies -- starting with the prologue.

(4/11/11) A lot of short fiction out this month: "Love, Cayce" at the Intergalactic Medicine Show, "Coyotaje" in Bewere the Night, and Dancing the Warrior at Beneath Ceaseless Skies. That last one includes two chances to win a signed pair of the doppelganger novels; check out the end of the story for more details.

(3/5/11) Some stories are so much fun to write, you can't wait to share them with others. I'm pleased to say that I've sold one such to the Intergalactic Medicine Show: "Love, Cayce," which is a series of letters from a young D&D-style adventurer to her poor, worried parents. If you'll be at FOGcon this upcoming weekend, I intend to read the story there.)
