Update on my hands and the Cthulhus

November 11th, 2011 · 11 Comments »

I’ve been waiting to write this for a while in hopes that things would sort themselves out or that I could get some kind of timeline. But it’s nearly mid-November now, so I think I really owe an update.

Last summer, I suffered a repetitive motion injury from over-crocheting. That injury is now completely gone, but in August I suffered a far worse hand/arm injury at work. After 3 months, I’m to the point where I can take pain-killers in the morning and do most of my everyday tasks without any difficulties. I’m restricting some of the things I do, but I can type and cook and do most of the things which I was struggling with or unable to do in August.

But I still can’t crochet without pain. The doctor says she expects that level of healing to take longer (and I’m not yet off pain-killers anyway). She’s also disappointed that I’m not healing faster. Sadly, with hands, it’s almost impossible not to use them—especially when you’re a grad student with a full-time job.

I think I will get better. I’m looking at physical/occupational therapy options beyond the exercises my doctor gave me. But I really have no clue whether it’ll be another month or two or six. Or a year. I hope it’ll be less than a year. I really miss crocheting. I want to get back to it. I have all these ideas for Cthulhus. It hurts that I can’t do it. But, for now, I can’t.

When I can, you’ll be the first to know.

The Complete Works of Lovecraft eBook Now in PDF

August 1st, 2011 · 25 Comments »

A while back, I released a complete works of H.P. Lovecraft eBook in EPUB and Kindle formats. While that works for most people, some had asked for a PDF copy for their computers or other devices. Creating the PDF wasn’t a priority (the stories are all available online and the two version I’ve created can be read on nearly every device, including computers), but it was still something I wanted to get around to. So last weekend, I got it put together.

You can download the PDF here. I’ve set it as a download vs. opening in a browser because it’s a large enough file that it may slow down your browser while loading. Should you want it in your browser or need to download it by right-clicking and saving the link for some reason, try this link instead. The text is the same as the other ebooks. It has a linked table of contents and “Return to Table of Contents” links following each story.

If you have an e-Reader or want to read it on your smartphone, I strongly recommend downloading the EPUB or the MOBI versions instead. The formatting looks fine on a computer and would probably look fine on a tablet, but PDFs simply don’t look as good on e-Readers/phones as EPUBs/MOBIs do. Since the file is about 6x as large as the other ebooks, this also puts more strain on my server. I’m hoping that won’t be an issue—otherwise I’ll have to host the download elsewhere.

As with the other eBook, this is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC 3.0) (a formalization of the request I initially made, merely putting it into legal terms). The book may be redistributed, torn apart, revised, etc, but please do not sell it. Uploading on your own site for download is fine. If you choose to share or redistribute the book, please give credit to CthulhuChick.com. Basically, you can do anything with it but sell it.

Hope you enjoy!

Where to Find Me at SDCC

July 19th, 2011 · 7 Comments »

Wednesday morning, I fly out to San-Diego for my first (and probably only for a while after this) Comic-Con!

My ideal schedule is up on Comic-Con’s scheduling site and it’s public/consistently updated so you can see where you’re likely to bump into me.

Sadly, I will not be able to make the Lovecraft panel on Thursday night as I have w00tstock tickets. Those are two events I would pass up almost anything else to miss, which is sad. But that’s life. I think all-in-all I’d rather do w00tstock with my friends and learn about the Lovecraft panel from recaps online.

Oh, and pictures! I’ll be wearing 2 Cthulhu t-shirts (with tentacle hair clip), cosplaying one day in a BSG uniform, and wearing something else on the last day, I guess. This is me:

And this is me in costume (sans belt/sidearm):

I should also be carrying this Tentacle Messenger Bag by Raygun Robyn:

There will be a couple Cthulhus in the bag each day. Because if you’re traveling, why not bring Cthulhus for company?

Interviewed at Innsmouth Free Press

July 15th, 2011 · 3 Comments »

Today, Innsmouth Free Press published an interview I did with them a few weeks back. Some random tidbits in it, like how I got into Lovecraft, whether the Cthulhus I make are dangerous, and also what I’m actually afraid of.

And in happy news, Amazon has fixed the crazy review problem. Quite relieved.
