About Us

Welcome
We hope you enjoy the Gaeltalk.net experience.
(Tá súil againn go mbainfir taithneamh as an gcúrsa.)

What is Gaeltalk.net?
www.gaeltalk.net teaches the Irish language via an online language course. Our online course is suitable to those who wish to learn Irish from native speakers.
Bard na nGleann Teo., www.bardnangleann.com is an information management company that has a special focus on the Gaeltachts of Munster. Gaeltalk.net is designed to make a direct connection between the Gaeltachts (Irish-speaking areas of Ireland) and the Irish diaspora around the world. This ambitious plan to form a Global Gaeltacht by Tomás Mac Gearailt, started with the online Irish language bookstore, www.litriocht.com in 1999.

Objectives
The goal of Gaeltalk.net is to provide a high quality on-line teaching environment for those who wish to learn spoken Irish while simultaneously supporting the ongoing use of Irish in everyday life in the Gaeltacht.

Gaeltalk and the future
Gaeltalk.net is currently involved in adding its online courses to the curricula of several universities worldwide. We can also provide these universities with more advanced follow-up courses, such as Gaeltacht-based Irish immersion programs in Ireland.

What people say about Gaeltalk.net

"Gaeltalk.net is outstanding, the fact that one can listen to sound files, interact with native speakers and gain a general insight into Gaeltacht life is amazing. It is an excellent resource for those who don't have access to a class or learning material. For those who do have access to a class, Gaeltalk.net strengthens their Irish by being able to practice it 24 hours a day if necessary."
Tom Devine, Conradh na Gaeilge in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

"Cape Clear is especially recognized as a Gaeltacht. There is a special richness in the language here because it is an island. Many people on Cape Clear did not understand the importance of the language, but when they see it is broadcast around the world, I think it is changing their outlook."
Conchúr Ó’Drisceoil, Captain of the Cape Clear ferry, Naomh Ciarán 11.

"The site has been laid out and structured with much thoughtfulness and skill. Also, as as a former software developer, among other things, I have to say how impressive I find the Gaeltalk software itself. Nice job!"
John Rafferty, Arizona, USA.

"It is a great course - I am really enjoying it and I don't want to spoil it by rushing through just to get it finished."
Diana Okada, Japan.

"Whoever was responsible for the grammar sections explained things so clearly."
Samas Kenny, Illinois, USA.
