Intro To Fused Glass

  • Posted on February 5, 2012 at 11:15 am

Now that I’m off the road, I’ve been itching to try out some new arts and crafts. And it just so happened that I’d purchased a Groupon for an Intro to Fusing class from Aquila Glass School last year, for learning to make fused glass.

The problem I had was by the time I realized my Groupon was expiring, all the classes were full. I was bummed. So I chalked it up to yet another expired Groupon, and let it go.

Health Improvements

  • Posted on January 12, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Like I said in this post, I’m not big on making resolutions. I tend to forget them, or get behind, and decide that I will never catch up, and give up all together.

But, I need to set some goals, because I turn 32 this year, and well, I can’t keep running in circles. So, here are some health improvement goals:

Why I Don’t Make Resolutions

  • Posted on January 10, 2012 at 11:25 am

I’ve never been very good at resolutions. Every time I make them, I get to my birthday, and they’re gone. That means by late February, Whatever resolutions I’ve decided to make are long gone, and about 4 months later I remember that I was going to attempt something.

Often, my resolutions are something that ends up being unobtainable: writing 1000 words a day, losing 60 pounds, etc. So, I get discouraged early on, realizing how far behind I already am, and then I just give up all together.

Bra Fitting 101

  • Posted on October 28, 2011 at 11:37 am

Pet and I usually recount this adventure every year about this time. And I figured, since I don’t have the Blizzcon post done yet, I could share this funny adventure with you. Some of the details are fuzzy, but this is pretty much how it went down.

It was 7 years ago, and Pet and I are in the women’s underthings section of Walmart, staring down the wall of bras. While we’re there, a guy comes along, and joins us in staring at the wall of bras. After a couple minutes, he grabs one, and tries it on. Around his waist. Like a belt.

Wisdom Teeth = Ouch

  • Posted on August 18, 2011 at 9:07 pm

I had my wisdom teeth out yesterday. The best thing I can say about the last 36 hours is ouch. But, they’re out, and I won’t have to worry about them anymore.

I wasn’t planned, it just sorta happened. Pet and I had purchased a Groupon that included a basic exam, X rays, and teeth cleaning, since we didn’t have an Oregon dentist. Pet has a wisdom tooth that’s in bad shape, so we decided to bite the bullet and make appointments. We went in Tuesday, and Dr. Christiensen (however it’s spelled), gave me doom and gloom, and how I was going to end up with a horrible infection with one of my wisdom teeth, and they needed to come out soon. I had known I’d have to have them out eventually, so Pet and I both looked into appointments, and they could fit me in Wednesday. So, I went.

How To Find A Niche In The Costume Website Market – Option 2

  • Posted on July 14, 2011 at 3:56 pm

Welcome to Option 2 of finding a costume to promote in the costume website market. If you’re looking for option 1, it’s here. I consider this the backwards way to finding niches, although it works pretty well. Usually I end up adding a few websites to my Go Daddy domain purchases because I’ve stumbled across them this way.

I know I shouldn’t assume, but for this article, I’m assuming you’ve read at least the beginning of option 1. You should know about BuyCostumes and why I use that website, and you should be at least vaguely familiar with the Google Keyword Tool. If this makes no sense, I suggest you go read option 1, at least the first few paragraphs.

How To Find A Niche In The Costume Website Market – Option 1

  • Posted on July 12, 2011 at 6:55 pm

Time for more Online Marketing babble. This one’s about keyword research, specifically the research I do for my Halloween websites. It’s pretty close to what I’d do for a normal niche blog, the only difference being how I check the competition. Even that’s a minor difference.

For this post, I’ll show how I find my first set of costume options. I’ll make a second post about how I find additional costume options, and then I’ll show how I register domains. So, two options and a tutorial on registering, and then I’ll probably go back to blogging about food and trucking for a while.

Surviving Puberty

  • Posted on July 7, 2011 at 8:24 pm

So Pet and I are driving through New Mexico, and we pass a pickup hauling a piece of farm equipment. It’s probably twice as high as the pickup, and at least as long, but the pickup’s trundling right along with it.

Then Pet speaks up. “I saw the most incredible thing today. There was this pickup hauling with this trailer, maybe half as long as our cab.”

The Yogurt Munch Adventure

  • Posted on June 28, 2011 at 9:25 pm

Since Pet and I have only been in the Portland area a year, and I’d been away  for more than 10 years before that, we’ve been using Groupon and Living Social deals to help us find interesting stuff in the area. Recently, I picked up a Groupon for car detailing, and Pet picked one up for a place called Yogurt Munch. I wanted an estimate for the detailing, and Pet’s yogurt deal was about to expire, so off we went.

You would think that living in a truck, and having to find places all the time would make directions a breeze, right? Not a chance.
