JANAINA NATURAL RESERVE
The Rainforest has many different environments and is rich in bamboo and has numerous springs. The endangered Bahia Tapaculo and Temminck´s Seedeater have been sighted in the Reserve.
Key Species: Rusty-margined Guan, Rufescent Tiger-Heron, Ruddy Quail-Dove, Blue-throated Parakeet, Pheasant Cuckoo, Least Pygmy-Owl, Black Jacobin, Black-bellied Thorntail, Ringed Kingfisher, Spot-backed Puffbird, Banded-tail Antwren, Black-capped Foliage-gleaner, Pale-browed Treehunter, White-eyed Foliage-gleaner, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, Bright-rumped Attila, Bare-throated Bellbird, Screaming Piha, Eastern Striped Manakin, Campo Troupial.
RIO CAPITAO RESERVE
This Reserve, in the region of southern Bahia, offers an excellent selection of birds and is a good place to begin to familiarize yourselves with the most common endemic species in the area. Approximately 100 species can be observed in a single day. The threatened Striated Softtail and Banded-tail Antwren can also be found in the Reserve.
Key Species: Little Tinamou, Speckled Chachalaca, Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture, Gray-headed Kite, Black Hawk-Eagle, Uniform Crake, Russet-crowned Crake, Gray-breasted Crake, Plain-breasted Ground-Dove, Striped Cuckoo, Reddish Hermit, Green Kingfisher, Rufous-tailed Jacamar, Golden-spangled Piculet, Yellow-eared Woodpecker, Lineated Woodpecker, Chestnut-backed Antshrike, White-fringed Antwren, Straight-billed Woodcreeper, Crescent-chested Puffbird Gray Elaenia, Common Tody-Flycatcher, Yellow Tyrannulet, Piratic Flycatcher, Tropical Kingbird, White-bearded Manakin, Green-backed Becard, Moustached Wren, Brazilian Tanager, Blue Dacnis, Red-rumped Cacique, Violaceous Euphonia.
STATE PARK SERRA DO CONDURÚ
Our goal is to spot the rare and critically endangered endemic species of the upland forests such as the White-Winged Cotinga and the Banded Cotinga. This slender bird with cobalt blue feathers is without doubt one of the most beautiful birds in the world comparable to the birds of paradise. It is not easy to observe, but often we spot it! The park consists of 12,000 hectares of secondary forest in the advanced state, with few accessible trails, and is an excellent area for large raptors, toucans and sairas.
Key Species: Variegated Tinamou, Brazilian Teal, Pied-billed Grebe, King Vulture, White-necked Hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Collared Forest-Falcon, Scaled Pigeon, Golden-capped Parakeet, Blue-throated Parakeet , Blue-winged Parrotlet, Golden-tailed Parrotlet, Channel-billed Toucan, Black-necked Aracari, Spotted Piculet, Cinereous Antshrike, Scaled Antbird , White-shouldered Fire-eye, Plain-winged Woodcreeper, Wing-banded Hornero, Sepia-capped Flycatcher, White-crowned Manakin, Opal-rumped Tanager, Rufous-headed Tanager, Yellow-backed Tanager, Yellow-green Grosbeak.
RIO PIRACANGA (Itacaré)
We cross the Rio de Contas on a unique ferry made with cans and tied to two fishing boats. On the other side of the Rio we will find the Restinga forest mixed with coastal areas. Incredible views of the habitats of certain species of birds of the Cerrado. In open areas and edges of the Restinga you can see: sanhaço-mascarado Black-faced Tanager and the caboclinho Capped Seedeater. In the forest you can see: Golden-tailed Parrotlet, Bahia Antwren, Hangnest Tody-Tyrant
Key Species: Pearl Kite, Southern Caracara, Scaled Dove, Peach-fronted Parakeet, Orange-winged Parrot, Short-tailed Nighthawk, Scissor-tailed Nightjar, Pale-rumped Swift, Plain-bellied Emerald, White-tailed Goldenthroat, Streak-capped Antwren, Olivaceous Woodcreeper, Caatinga Cacholote, Blue-backed Manakin, White-winged Cotinga, Green Honeycreeper, Yellow-bellied Seedeater, Chopi Blackbird, Orange-bellied Euphonia.
