Sonic 4 Episode 2 shares save data between XBLA and WP7

By

March 16, 2012

Ever get so hooked on a Sonic the Hedgehog console game that you absolutely had to continue your game on the road? If that was you, you used to be totally screwed. Not so anymore, at least for Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360 users.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 has cross-platform compatibility when it comes to save files, so you’ll be able to pick up and move off the couch and onto the crapper onto the bus while continuing the very same game.

“The Windows Mobile 7 and the Xbox are going to be able to work in tandem in ways that are really completely new,” said Sega’s Ken Balough, “so when you pick up the Windows Mobile 7, you’ll be able to play Sonic Episode 2, save it, stop, boot up your 360 and pick up right where you left off.”

This one is due out soon (Spring 2012) and will be launching on just about every platform currently available except the Wii, 3DS, DS and PSP.

Gunlord launching like it’s 1999

March 15, 2012

Who says games need to be released for modern consoles? Not NG Dev Team who prepares to release their third game for older hardware, Gunlord.

Gunlord is a “Eurostyle Platformer” which basically means plays a bit like Contra, Turrican, and the like (with a bit of shoot ‘em up thrown in) and has large and awesomely detailed sprites with great animations. Releasing March 26th for the Neo Geo in both MVS and AES carts for serious collectors only at $400+, but will be released on the Dreamcast the 14th of June at about $40.

You can pick them up and find out more about Gunlord at the website for the game.

Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia ports up next? Maybe

By

March 14, 2012

Sega is currently prepping to launch Jet Set Radio, but they may have a couple of other high-profile Dreamcast titles lined up for the future.

The news was broke during an interview with Sega Brand Manager Ben Harborne, conducted by Game Reactor. Harborne was asked that if the fans had a voice in the matter, what game would be next.

“I can tell you what’ll be: Shenmue,” Harborne said. “That, and Skies of Arcadia. They’re a couple of our most requested games. I can’t say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, but we may be working on them.”

They “may be working on them” huh? Sounds suspicious…

Retro City Rampage will cost fifteen smackers upon release

By
Anthony
March 14, 2012

Vblank Entertainment’s main man Brian Provinciano has finally revealed the price gamers will need to pay in order to download and enjoy Retro City Rampage.

“There are so many devices out there, and you can reach a huge market; it’s unimaginable on other platforms,” Provinciano told Pocket Next in an interview. “Unfortunately, with that comes the downside of a race to the bottom: the $0.99 app problem. The race to the bottom is a terrible, terrible thing.

“With Retro City Rampage, I felt very strongly that it was a fifteen-dollar game, and that’s what I’m charging; in fact, it’s bigger than Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and that launched at $40. And I’ve questioned, do I have to launch it at $15 because of the ‘race to the base?’ And I’ve tossed [and turned] about that, but no. It’s a fifteen-dollar game, at least.”

So there you have it. Retro City Rampage will cost $15 when it launches in May. Try not to feel bad about this price — if it actually came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System 20 years ago you’d likely be paying more than $50. You’re getting a “retro” game for a modern price.

The last thing we heard about Monster World IV was that it was to be included under the banner of the Sega Vintage Collection when it released on the Playstation Network and Wii Virtual Console. Now we have news on its release, though it’s on neither of the aforementioned systems.

A marketplace listing went up for SVC: Monster World on Xbox.com, detailing a collection that includes Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World and the previously un-exported Monster World IV. No price or date were listed, but there are 14 screens and a description.

SVC: Monster World description

Bring peace back to Monster World in these three classic action RPG titles: Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, and for the first time outside of Japan, Monster World IV! Now available for download on Xbox LIVE, the Monster World saga features all new achievements, challenging new trial modes, Xbox LIVE Leaderboards, and recordable and downloadable game sessions!

We’ll search for more and report as it develops.
