National Technical Systems Awarded Supply Chain Contract from Alliant Techsystems

CALABASAS, Calif., Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --  National Technical Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: NTSC) (NTS), a leading provider of testing and engineering services, announced today that its Supply Chain division, Unitek Technical Services, has been selected by Alliant Techsystems Inc. (NYSE: ATK) (ATK) to provide technical and quality management services to support ATK's activities at the Radford Army Ammunitions Plant in Radford, VA.

Unitek's extensive experience in technical and quality services will provide ATK with a specialized competency to ensure service quality standards are maintained through the delivery and implementation of its contracted services at the Radford facility. The $500,000 NTS contract will be completed by the end of January 2012, although the potential for new contracts and extended services with ATK exists, said NTS CEO William C. McGinnis.

NTS has been working with ATK for several years providing the company a range of testing services; however, this is the initial contract whereby NTS will provide ATK supply chain management services, McGinnis added. This is an excellent example of NTS executing its strategy of using mergers and acquisitions to diversify its services and broaden its capabilities and to cross sell those services to existing and new customers, McGinnis noted.

"We are very pleased to expand our relationship with ATK at the Radford facility," McGinnis said. "Since bringing on Unitek two years ago, we have created a broader range of solutions for our clients. For ATK, that means adding supply chain services to our testing labs and engineering capabilities."

NTS supply chain management services range from source inspections to supplier audits to corrective action verification services and more. These services are a natural complement to the historical testing and certification services that NTS has provided for more than 50 years, noted Kevin Beard, President of NTS Supply Chain Services.

"This contract is evidence that our supply chain management services are gaining traction in our various target markets and we see greater demand in 2012 and beyond," Beard said.
