Breezy Mama bestie KC recently boldly went where Alex and I were too wimpy unable to go… on a crazy Les Mills workout (taught by 90,000 certified instructors in more than 14,000 licensed clubs around the world) with former Bachelor winner (then not so much) and Dancing with the Stars favorite Melissa Rycroft.

From KC:

You know how sometimes you think you’re in good shape and can handle a tough workout with barely a sweat? And then you do a killer workout and you’re reminded of all those nights when Read More…

Mirror Mirror’s Lily Collins: My Mom and I Are Best Friends

spacer

Breezy Mama hangin' with Lily Collins

It’s not every day you get to meet the fairest of them all, but at an event in Los Angeles, I was fortunate to get to sit down with Lily Collins, a.k.a. Snow White in the upcoming Mirror Mirror that also stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen in theaters March 30. At a round table interview with other mom bloggers, Lily gave the scoop on her close relationship with her own mother, what Julia Roberts is like as a mom, life as an iconic fairy tale princess and, well, the question on many of our minds: her eyebrows.

Did you feel any intimidation about playing such a iconic role as Snow White, because those are kinda big shoes to fill?

It is. I grew up in England in the countryside, and I would run around the yard kind of just making up my own fairytales in my head. And I think when it comes to fairytale characters, every young girl has their own interpretation of what a fairytale princess is and who she should be. Even if it’s the wrong hair color, it’s like, “I’m her, and that’s kind of my way of doing it.”

What was it like when you found out you were going to be Snow White?

When I found out that I got the role, I thought it was an April Fools joke, because it was on April 1st. I was in a hotel in San Francisco, I had Read More…

Losing Maddie – A Year Later

spacer

Today marks the one year “Angelversary‏” of Maddie’s passing. Kajsa reflects on the last year–from how she’s coping with the loss of a child to how she’s continually feeling Maddie’s presence . . .

From Kajsa:

People ask me all the time how I am doing.  My response is usually, “I’m OK.”  I say this because I don’t think most who ask really want to know the truth: I am not OK.  A year ago today I watched my only child die in my arms.  I think I’d be pretty messed up if I were OK.

I hear the term “grieving process” too frequently.  “Process” being defined as “a systematic series of actions directed to some end.”  Those who have lost a child know this term doesn’t exist.  There is no end to this grieving.  We will never heal.  There is no getting over this.  I have come to accept that sorrow will be a companion of mine for the rest of my life.  I have learned to embrace it and not feel wrong about having it as a friend.  This does not mean that there haven’t been moments of happiness this past year; it just means that it’s a different sort of emotion.  Happiness is always laced with a little bit of sorrow, and that’s OK.

It’s “anguish” that is no friend of mine.  “Severe mental or physical pain or suffering,” is a term that’s definitely in my vocabulary.  I have a broken blood vessel under my eye from wiping away one too many tears, I’ve lost a bunch of hair that is finally starting to grow back, and I get frequent migraines.  I feel extreme Read More…

How To Tell If A Bump On The Head Is Serious

spacer Every parent understands why there should be no more monkeys jumping on the bed… but when should mama call the doctor if they bump their head? All making myself giggle aside, now that my twins are walking, the bumps and bruises are visiting often. And then of course there are my three big kids – at least one of who gets a “strawberry” (that would be my three year old today) once a week or so. Breezy Mama turned to Dr. Vincent Iannelli– a pediatrician and author of The Everything Father’s First Year Book — to find out when a child bumps their head (on a toy, the dining room table….again…falling backwards, etc.), when to call 911, when it’s safe just to call the pediatrician, signs to be cautious of and how to treat a minor bump on the head.

Under what circumstances after a child bumps their head should a parent dial 911?

A parent should seek immediate medical attention if their child has Read More…

Kid’s Room Decor: Horses

spacer

When I was a girl, I loved, loved, LOVED horses. I had an entire barn set up, with my Schleich horses which I would play and play with. Every year on my Christmas list, I listed that I wanted a pony (and every year, I never got one). And on the wall of my room hung a canvas that I had painted and titled, “A Gallant Horse.” (The title needed to be there because otherwise, people may have not known that it was a horse.) So when I was out shopping the other day and happened to see some pinks sheets with little brown ponies on them, I let out a big “awwwwwww” and wished I had them when I was young. Thus, this post’s theme, “horses.”

How peaceful is it looking into this horse theme? Throw down a Read More…
