Uranus Is All Wrong

spacer So it seems when I did the graphics for Fametracker’s Galaxy of Fame template a few years ago I mixed up Neptune and Uranus (Your anus? I nearly killed ‘em!) and give Uranus a spot that belonged to Neptune. How embarrassing!

I’m getting this info second hand so I’ll throw an anonymous thanks out to the NASA engineer who dropped Tara a line to let her know — thank you — you know who you are!

Update: I also squished a rendering bug here on Glark.org on Firefox and Camino on the Mac. A really weird one. Turns out that Firefox and Camino (which share the same base code) will render light-coloured text on dark backgrounds thinner (not a bold vs. unbold thing but just thinner) if you have opacity calls anywhere in the CSS file. Take those out and then you get font rendering to OSX specs. It was really bugging the hell out of me!

Japan Continues To Be Like Crazy Uncle Family Doesn’t Understand

spacer Just before I went in for wisdom tooth extraction, a couple of gifts arrived from the Gift Fairy. Thank you generous and potentially wanting to remain mysterious and shadowy gift fairy! Inside the Amazon package were two shiny videogames. I can’t really give a good review of the first game because I’ve been totally hooked on the second one — Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the Nintendo DS.

Among all the lawyer simulator videogames I have played this just has to be the best. Ok, that’s not a crowded field but this game is pretty great. It’s basically an old-school style adventure game but structured around cases you must research and eventually defend in court. I should mention at this point it is Japanese and when it comes to videogames, being a microniche game from Japan usually means it is going to be weird at minimum and royally fucked up if we’re lucky.

Phoenix Wright is like playing Law & Order as imagined by Japanese managers of American theme restaurants with some supernatural overtones thrown in to keep you on your toes. I’ve solved two cases so far and my boss has already been murdered and has come back as a ghost or spirit in the courtroom to help out (yep).

Totally recommended if you have a DS. Thanks again Gift Fairy!

About

David T. Cole (a.k.a. Glark) runs Glark Industries, Glarkware and helps run Television Without Pity, Fametracker, Videogamey and bunch of other stuff.

He lives in Toronto with his wife where they have had to institute a policy of alternating who picks what restaurant they go to because it was getting ridiculous hearing “no, whatever you want” over and over again.
